On September 23, the opening ceremony of "Minsk Days in Ho Chi Minh City" and "Belarus - Vietnam Business Forum" took place at the hall of the Union of Friendship Organizations of the city, attracting the attention of many leaders and businesses from the two countries.

Mr. Uladzimir Baravikou - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Vietnam - said that for many generations of Vietnamese, the image of the Minsk motorbike has not only been a symbol of long-standing trade exchanges between the two countries but also shows the quality of the Belarusian machinery industry.

And in this trade promotion, the Belarusian business delegation selected large, leading businesses to continue conquering the Vietnamese market with that old impression.

Among them are the world's largest producer and exporter of potash fertilizer, or Belshina, a tire manufacturing company, ready to cooperate in importing raw materials and supplying finished products to Vietnam...

On the contrary, Belarusian enterprises are very interested in suppliers of equipment and raw materials from Vietnam for the production of footwear, cashew. In addition to footwear, there are companies that produce other consumer products such as socks, knitwear, household appliances and home shoes.

"These are industries suitable for market expansion as well as trade with Vietnam, where the two sides have complementary economic advantages and have much potential to promote trade in many fields. We expect this forum to be the first step and the beginning of many more business delegations between the two countries to promote and invest," said Mr. Uladzimir Baravikou.

Attending the event, Mr. Vo Van Hoan - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - emphasized that the bilateral relationship between the two countries has recorded many positive developments, with increased trust and regular delegation exchanges at all levels. In particular, the official visit to Vietnam by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko in December 2023 opened up a new direction for deeper cooperation between the two sides.

Last year, total trade turnover between Vietnam and Belarus reached 65.3 million USD. As of the first quarter of 2024, Belarus had invested 32.25 million USD in 3 projects in Vietnam.

As for Ho Chi Minh City, the import-export turnover between the city and Belarus in the first 8 months of 2024 reached more than 2 million USD. According to the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, this figure still does not fully reflect the potential for cooperation between the two sides. The city hopes that through this event, trade and investment cooperation with Belarus, especially Minsk, will continue to be promoted in many areas such as production, manufacturing, healthcare, food, fashion and logistics services.

In particular, with Vietnam implementing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Belarus is a member, Ho Chi Minh City believes that this will be a driving force to promote cooperation in the future.

Belarus has an open economy with more than 63% of the value of goods and services destined for export.
