From the great victory of Spring 1975 to the new era of national development

On the morning of April 20, the Ministry of National Defense coordinated with the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to organize a national scientific conference on the Great Spring Victory of 1975 with a new era of development of the Vietnamese nation.

Attending and chairing the workshop were Politburo members: Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission; General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee. Also attending were leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries, branches and localities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang affirmed that the great victory in the spring of 1975 was the greatest victory of the national liberation struggle led by our Party, and a glorious and brilliant page in the history of the Vietnamese people's thousands of years of building and defending the country.

Reviewing the major milestones from the Paris Agreement (1973) to the day of national reunification (April 30, 1974), General Phan Van Giang assessed this as a worthy achievement for the arduous and challenging struggles with the enormous sacrifices and losses of our army and people.

The great victory of the General Offensive and Uprising in the Spring of 1975 is a testament to the Party's proactive and creative revolutionary line and correct leadership method. This is a victory of the strength of people's war, a vivid expression of patriotism closely combined with the will to unify the Fatherland and the aspiration for peace, of the strength of national unity combined with the strength of the times.

The Minister of National Defense said that the workshop, part of a series of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of national reunification, is an opportunity for the entire Party, army and people to review the nation's heroic and indomitable fighting tradition and express deep gratitude to previous generations.

The results of the conference will contribute to fostering patriotism, national pride and self-respect; strengthening the belief and political determination of the entire Party, people and army to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; at the same time, fighting against wrong views that deny the nation's long-term resistance war and the great revolutionary cause of our people.

"Through this conference, we continue to affirm and deepen the stature and historical significance of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, drawing on historical experiences and lessons to apply to the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam in the new era of development of the Vietnamese nation," added General Phan Van Giang.

Clarifying 5 important issues

In his opening speech, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia asked delegates to focus on analyzing and explaining the five issues in a more profound and clear manner with a specific, objective, scientific perspective and a spirit of innovation and creativity.

First, continue to analyze and clarify the advantages, difficulties, and context of the world, regional, and domestic situations..., especially in the years 1973 - 1975.

Third, continue to affirm that the Great Victory of Spring 1975 was the result of Vietnam's strength in the Ho Chi Minh era; the position, role, and coordination between battlefields; research, supplement, and clarify the roles of components and forces, of the army, police, youth volunteers, and militia.

Fourthly, analyze the unique features of Vietnamese military art and thinking in the resistance war against America to save the country; the unique features of the people's war, the whole people fighting the enemy; the unique features of the art of ending the war, expressing the humanity and the spirit of aspiration and love of peace of our nation.

Finally, the focus is on highlighting the stature, value and meaningful lessons of the Great Victory of Spring 1975; drawing on experiences and historical lessons of profound theoretical and practical value to apply and promote in the current cause of national construction and defense.

"In particular, it is necessary to analyze and clarify the great achievements after 50 years of national reunification, especially 40 years of implementing the national renovation process, affirming that those achievements create the position and strength for our country to enter a new era. Point out the potential and role of the southern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City in the development of the country in the new period," the Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission emphasized.

Ho Chi Minh City prepares to enter a new era

Speaking at the workshop, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen shared that the further back in time, the more the historical significance of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign shines.

Mr. Nen affirmed that the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City deeply understand the meaning and significance of peace and unity; at the same time, they are always grateful to generations of predecessors who contributed blood and sweat to the historic victory of the nation.

Ho Chi Minh City has been, is and will focus on synchronously and strongly implementing strategic breakthrough tasks, developing science and technology infrastructure, innovation, green transformation, digital transformation, improving the quality of human resources, and arranging a streamlined, strong and effective apparatus.

In particular, by 2030, it is determined to become a smart, modern city, leading the country's industrialization and modernization, with a prominent position in Southeast Asia. By 2045, it is determined to become a developed city on par with major cities in the world.

Secretary Nguyen Van Nen said that Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on deploying and implementing major and urgent breakthrough policies and decisions of the Central Government, preparing to enter the era of national development.

"In that process, we are always deeply aware of our role and duty and try our best so that the political system and successive generations are aware of and demonstrate their responsibility, live, fight, and study wholeheartedly to continue the cause in a worthy manner. Ho Chi Minh City has been, is, and will do our utmost to build and foster the great national unity bloc, taking the common goal as a common point, promoting the tradition of solidarity, humanity, and affection associated with building the Ho Chi Minh cultural space increasingly deep and effective," Mr. Nen shared more.
