At the age of 88, Kieu Chinh says the source of energy that keeps her passionate about her work is art - this is also what has sustained her for the past several decades.
Returning to Vietnam after more than 10 years, Kieu Chinh appeared in the movie Chrysalis (Cocoon), tells the story of the childhood of painter and sculptor Sir Daniel K. Winn. The film is full of art and emotion, co-produced in Vietnam by actress Truong Ngoc Anh.
Sharing with VTC News reporter, Kieu Chinh admitted feeling emotional when everything changed a lot after 14 years of returning to Vietnam. Since the project Soul Stealer by director Ham Tran, Kieu Chinh has the opportunity to return home to act in films. She said she feels overwhelmed because Vietnamese cinema is becoming more and more advanced.
At the age of 88, veteran actress Kieu Chinh makes everyone admire her youthful beauty, strong health and professional demeanor at work. When asked about the secret to maintaining her beauty, Kieu Chinh frankly said it was "working hard and living simply".
"The past 3 years have been the busiest time of my career. I have made 2 short films, each with 18 episodes, and finished filming 3 feature films," she revealed.
Sharing about her upcoming plans, Kieu Chinh revealed that she has two big projects in mind but has not dared to reveal them because it is too early. Kieu Chinh said that the secret to maintaining her energy to continue working at the age of U90 is art.
"Art has fed me. For the past 68 years, my life has been tied to art, and today, I am very happy to return to Vietnam to make a film.
For me, age is just a number. I feel like my working energy is the same as it was ten years ago, sometimes even more enthusiastic. So I don't feel any obstacles when acting at this age," she shared.
In the past, Kieu Chinh had few opportunities to return to Vietnam because she was busy with work and taking care of her family. Although she really wanted to, she could not return to Vietnam to work because her children and grandchildren were abroad. "Saigon Beauty" confided that she used to return to Vietnam often because she had a charity. Her charity had built 51 schools all over Vietnam. However, since the death of her two co-founders, she handed over the management position to younger people.
Approaching her 90th birthday, Kieu Chinh is happy that her family always supports her to continue contributing to art, as long as she feels happy. For her, having the health to work is a wonderful thing. "I will keep working until I can't do it anymore," actor confessed.
Talking about her role in the new film, Kieu Chinh shared: “I feel like I am coming home. Vietnam has always been a part of my soul, and this return is not only personal but also an opportunity for me to contribute to a project that I am passionate about.
