Coach Cristiano Roland has just won the 2024 National U.17 Championship with the Hanoi U.17 team. This is considered a historic achievement for the capital's youth training center. Although Hanoi Club is considered the cradle of Vietnamese youth football with many championships in the national U.19 and U.21 championships, it has never won the U.17 tournament (from 2023 onwards).
Among them, the person who contributed greatly to Hanoi U.17 winning the 2024 National U.17 Championship is Brazilian coach Cristiano Roland. After the glorious achievement with his team, he shared: "My goal from the day I took over the team was always to reach the final and become the champion. We have 11 months of preparation and hard training for this tournament. The most important thing is that the players understand my coaching style, and I have conveyed it so that they have the desire to become champions. We are really happy with this championship, but we also have to keep our feet on the ground and immediately think about the next step."
"There is nothing special about the squad of U.17 Hanoi. We built a united team where the players have to support and help each other. We always consider each match as a final and we have done it. The most important thing is the attitude. On the field, the players need to believe in themselves, believe in the tactics, as well as have a strong mentality. The 6-match winning streak to win the championship is proof that the players have maintained a strong mentality," the Brazilian coach said about the secret to helping U.17 Hanoi win the championship.
When asked about being appointed to lead big teams at Hanoi Club such as U.19, U.21... Mr. Roland affirmed: "When I return to Vietnam from Portugal, I am always ready to take on any position at Hanoi Club, including U.17, U.19, U.21 or even the first team. However, I have to follow the plan set by the board of directors. Hanoi Club has opened the door, giving me the opportunity to demonstrate my ability. If I have the opportunity (to lead Hanoi's first team - PV), it would be really great".
At this time, Coach Cristiano Roland is a strong candidate for the position of Head Coach of Vietnam U.17, after Coach Tran Minh Chien said goodbye. Mr. Roland is considered suitable for the role of "captain" of Vietnam U.16.
Coach Cristiano Roland played for Hanoi FC for many years (from 2008 to 2013), so he is very knowledgeable about Vietnamese football. Previously, the Brazilian coach worked as an assistant to Mr. Tran Minh Chien at the Vietnam U.17 team, during the training period in April 2024. In addition, Coach Roland also participated in the 2024 National U.17 tournament. Therefore, if he leads Vietnam U.17 at this time, Mr. Roland will have many advantages when implementing professional work, especially in the personnel selection stage.
The main goal of U.17 Vietnam in the coming time is the 2025 U.17 Asian qualifiers, competing at the end of October 2024. U.17 Vietnam is in Group I with Kyrgyzstan (on October 23), Myanmar (October 25) and Yemen (October 27).
