That was the comment of Dr. Le Xuan Nghia - Former Vice Chairman of the National Financial Supervision Committee when talking about the launching ceremony of the campaign "Fierce Vietnamese Spirit - For a Green Future" of Vingroup Corporation.

- What do you think about the campaign "Fierce Vietnamese Spirit - For a Green Future" recently launched by Vingroup, calling on the business community and people to make a green transition?

To me, this is a very meaningful and pioneering program of Vingroup towards green economy and green growth. There are few enterprises that can do what Vingroup is doing: looking directly at the issue of energy transition, green transition in transportation, helping the Government's Net Zero goal become more realistic.

The pioneering and leadership of VinFast and Vingroup both have the meaning of "awakening" and inspiring the business community to join hands in creating a green world in the future.

- Not only calling for help, Vingroup has also introduced strong policies to support users in switching to green vehicles such as free charging, priority parking, dedicated lanes at some services... and many other privileged policies. How do you evaluate these?

These commitments and actions show that Vingroup does not just make general statements or launches, but has used its own financial resources to support and promote green transformation in transportation, creating a green environment for society. This is very meaningful, demonstrating the social responsibility of the leading enterprise of the economy.

- Green transformation is a long journey, consuming a lot of resources, and is a single enterprise like Vingroup enough to create change for the whole society, sir?

That’s right. Solving the problem of pollution and building a green future is a huge task, a shared responsibility of the whole society. The environment is not the story of any individual or business. And in fact, no matter how strong the resources are, a business like Vingroup cannot carry out the mission of green transformation alone.

Vingroup has taken the lead, but with more support and companionship from the business community and consumers, we will create a large movement for green transformation in transportation. Then the campaign will certainly be successful and bring value to the future of our children.

Similarly, in industry, to build a large international brand, a single enterprise, no matter how financially strong, cannot do it alone, but needs great support from the Government and consumers.

Sowing “industrial seeds” for world-class Vietnamese brands

- To build a Vietnamese brand of international class as you said, what difficulties do we have to anticipate?

The difficulty is not only because the automobile industry is young, but also because Vietnam has opened its doors to foreign automobile industries for a long time. We have to compete with very large, experienced competitors, rich in both money and technology. In addition to the efforts of enterprises, without the strong support of the Government, the banking system, and consumers, especially the young generation, the "battle" to create a pillar automobile industry of the national industry will face many difficulties.

In Vietnam, banks prioritize lending to short-term projects, without many resources focused on industry. Interest rates are also high. So it can be said that the financial difficulties that businesses like VinFast have to overcome are huge.

Another difficulty is the foreign-oriented mindset of a segment of users. This is completely different from Korea - where people always prioritize domestic industrial products. Koreans have a great will to unite to support the development of the pillar industry of automobiles, which then spreads to related industries such as steel production, shipbuilding, etc. This is an example for Vietnamese people to build an industrial foundation in the future.

- So, what does each person need to do for Vietnam to successfully build a world-class national brand?

We are proud to be the only country in Southeast Asia, although behind in the development of the automobile industry, but now has a Vietnamese branded automobile company - something that Malaysia or Thailand have not been able to do. That is something the whole world recognizes and is also the pride of Vietnamese enterprises.

As I said, the success of Korean car companies so far is thanks to the combined strength of Korean domestic consumers. It is not only a spiritual strength but also a shield to cope with international competition from other car companies.

I believe that we Vietnamese can also create a similar source of great strength. Enterprises like VinFast will be extremely valuable "industrial seeds" to develop the industry, as well as for Vietnam to achieve the goal of becoming a developed country with high income, belonging to the group of leading industrialized countries in Asia.
