(Dan Tri) - Of the 115 secondary school students in Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi, participating in the city-level competition this year, 39 are students of a private school.
The results of the second round of the exam to select excellent grade 9 students of Bac Tu Liem district to compete at the city level in the 2024-2025 school year have just been announced. Accordingly, Newton Secondary and High School continues to lead with 39 students selected for the team.
14/39 students are grade 7 and 8 students taking the advanced exam. In the IT subject alone, 100% of Newton students who won prizes were grade 7 and 8 students.
Notably, the 7 valedictorians of the second round in the literature, chemistry, English, math, computer science, biology and geography teams are all students of this school. The school also has 7 salutatorians in the literature, English, math, computer science, biology, physics and history teams.

Five teams of literature, chemistry, math, English and IT have half of their members being students from Newton school.
Previously, another private school also topped the results of the excellent student competition in Thanh Xuan district, which was Hanoi Star Primary and Secondary School. This school won 76 prizes, including 13 first prizes, accounting for 54.2% of the total first prizes in the district.
In math, IT, English, and chemistry, 100% of the district's first prizes went to students from Ngoi Sao School.
The school's remaining prizes include 36 second prizes, 17 third prizes and 10 consolation prizes.
With this result, the school has 37 students entering the official team to compete at the city level.
The Hanoi Secondary School Excellent Student Exam in Cultural Subjects for Grade 9 is scheduled to take place on January 18, 2025.
Candidates will compete in seven subjects including math, literature, civics, information technology, foreign languages, history and geography, and natural sciences.
In which, foreign language includes 3 languages: English, French, Japanese. History and geography includes history and geography. Natural science includes 3 content streams: energy and change (corresponding to old physics); matter and change of matter (corresponding to old chemistry); living things (corresponding to old biology).
Thus, compared to the excellent student exam according to the 2006 general education program, this year's exam has changes in the number of subjects and subject names.
The three subjects of physics, chemistry, and biology are now three content streams in one subject, natural science. However, candidates cannot take all three content streams but can only choose one of the three.
Similarly, history and geography are now two sub-subjects in one exam, history and geography. Candidates can only choose one of the two sub-subjects to take the exam.
According to regulations, each Department of Education and Training is only allowed to send a maximum of 10 candidates to each team.
In special cases, when 80% of the candidates in a team have won prizes in two consecutive city-level competitions, the team will be increased by a maximum of 5 candidates.
