To Vinh Dien Primary School, Dong Da District (Hanoi) will teach golf for free to all students in the 2024-2025 school year.
Ms. Ha Ngoc Lan, Principal of To Vinh Dien Primary School, said that all 850 students of the school will receive free golf training and instruction (including golf equipment) from January 2025 to the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
"Bringing golf to schools not only helps diversify physical activities and school sports, but also helps students approach an international sport. Through the subject, students are trained in many good qualities such as calmness, concentration, patience, honesty, the will to overcome challenges, politeness... These are factors that help them succeed in their studies and life," Ms. Lan shared.
In the immediate future, the school will implement it in the 2024-2025 school year. After 1 semester, the school will evaluate the results, survey the wishes of students and parents, and make plans for the following school years.
According to Ms. Lan, the 2018 General Education Program stipulates 32 periods per week. Students study 5 days/week, 6 periods per day. Regular school hours end at around 3:15 p.m. From then until 5 p.m., the school can organize clubs according to parents' needs.
Ms. Trinh Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that teaching golf to primary school students has practical significance, ensuring the goal of comprehensive physical development, linking physical education with education on qualities and life skills.
She hopes the program will be developed, golf clubs will be formed in schools and from this school there will be promising golf talents in the future.
The country plans to include Music and Physical Education in the high school graduation exam.
