High school paid 419 million VND in wrong spending, principal contributed more than 100 million VND from his own pocket

On April 21, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Phan Thuong Tong, Vice Principal of Buon Ma Thuot High School, said that the unit has paid to correct the amount of more than 400 million VND wrongly spent on 25 cadres and teachers in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. This correction was carried out at the request of the Department of Education and Training Inspectorate.

According to Mr. Tong, during the process of correction, many teachers received the wrong money but refused to cooperate, forcing the principal, vice principal, and accountant to spend a large amount of money to correct the situation. Of the total amount of money mentioned above, the principal had to pay out of his own pocket more than 100 million VND.

Mr. Tong said that although the inspection concluded that the money was wrongly spent, some teachers said that the inspection conclusion was not clear, and if they wanted to pay it back, there would have to be a decision to withdraw it from each individual.

Regarding this issue, a leader of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training said that Buon Ma Thuot High School has recovered the over 400 million VND of wrongful expenditure. In particular, for those who refuse to return the money, the school needs to hold a meeting and make a list to send to the Department for a basis for resolution.

Regarding this incident, on April 16, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Xuan, Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, signed a decision to discipline Mr. Le Van Thai, Principal of Buon Ma Thuot High School. Specifically, at the end of 2024, the Inspector of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training pointed out many violations in financial spending at Buon Ma Thuot High School. Specifically, in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years, Buon Ma Thuot High School spent many incorrect budget items, exceeding the norm in 17 items with an amount of more than 419 million VND.
