In late May, social networks in Quang Binh were abuzz with clips from the year-end ceremony of Quy Dat Town Kindergarten No. 1 (Minh Hoa, Quang Binh) recording the scene where the principal grabbed the microphone and pointed at the head of the parents' association, preventing him from talking about the irregularities in the school's socialized purchase of lockers for classes.

Parents' Association prevented from talking about social injustice

According to the content of the clip, the president of the school's parents' association was invited to the stage to speak. During the speech, this person asked permission from all parents to explain the incident related to the school asking for socialized funds from the parents' association to buy 22 lockers to store students' belongings in the classrooms.

Accordingly, the total number of cabinets purchased is 22, the price of each cabinet is 6 million VND, the funding source for purchasing cabinets is mobilized from the parents' association fund.

After that, many parents disagreed with this. The reason was that the parents thought that with the size that the principal gave, it could not cost 6 million. Many parents also advised using other materials because plywood cabinets would be easily damaged.

Then the principal announced the price again at 4 million VND per cabinet.

However, while the president of the parents' association was presenting, Ms. Dinh Thi Bui Chung stood up and held the microphone to prevent the president of the parents' association from continuing her speech.

In the clip, Ms. Chung walked up to the stage and pointed at the parent association president to ask him not to talk about socializing the purchase of cabinets during the closing ceremony.

A vice principal stood up to express his opinion that the president of the parents' association was invited to speak and had asked for permission so he had the right to speak, but Ms. Chung snatched the microphone from the vice principal's hand.

These events took place right in front of dozens of parents and students, leaving many people shaking their heads in dismay.

"No different from the market"

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, president of the parents' association, said at the closing ceremony on May 24 that at the beginning of the school year, the principal offered a price of 6 million VND for each locker, so many parents did not agree. After being protested, the principal announced the price of 4 million VND. "But when the parents' association had not yet officially agreed, the principal asked the contractor to make the lockers. This is against the procedure, so we continue to disagree," Ms. Lien said.

Regarding this incident, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho, head of the Department of Education and Training of Minh Hoa district, said that the department had learned about the incident through the clips and had called the school principal to report.

"I feel ashamed of what happened at this school during the graduation ceremony. It was no different from a market. In front of so many parents and students, the principal behaved like that," said Mr. Tho.
