The above information was announced by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong - Chairman of the Council of Thu Dau Mot University this morning (October 22).

Previously, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province directed Thu Dau Mot University to coordinate with relevant agencies to develop a plan to promptly return the wrongly collected tuition fees to students.

According to Dr. Cuong, Thu Dau Mot University is currently reviewing and counting the number of affected students (students whose practice credits were overcharged) to report to the competent authority. However, because many students have graduated and are no longer studying, the review will take time and will be completed in 2024.

Besides, because the amount of 37 billion has been paid into the state budget, when refunding it, it must be done in accordance with the procedures and regulations of the law.

“The amount of money collected incorrectly according to the audit conclusion will be refunded by the school, in the spirit of ensuring the rights of students and in accordance with the law. Currently, specialized departments are working on the data,” said Dr. Cuong.

Meanwhile, a representative of Binh Duong Department of Finance said that the amount of money Thu Dau Mot University paid into the budget will be returned when the school has complete documents.

Previously, the State Audit concluded that Thu Dau Mot University collected tuition fees exceeding the prescribed level for students in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years (exceeding the regulations by about 1.5 times) with the amount of 37 billion VND.

With this wrongly collected amount, the State Audit requires the school to refund the students before March 31, 2023. If it cannot be refunded, it will be paid to the State budget.

After the audit conclusion, Thu Dau Mot University decided to choose the option of resubmitting to the budget. This has caused a stir among thousands of students and public opinion.
