The first school in Vietnam to have a Faculty of Artificial Intelligence

The Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology is the first school in Vietnam to have a faculty of artificial intelligence.

Attending and speaking at the event, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung shared that AI is a new field for all countries, including Vietnam. However, in the near future, AI will be present in all aspects of social life.

The Minister encouraged the pioneering spirit in AI technology training of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology.

The Minister emphasized that the school aims to be in the Top 500 artificial intelligence training faculties in the world, but we must strive to be in the Top 100 in artificial intelligence applications.

We may not be the ones to invent technology, but we must accelerate the application of technology. We must make sure that every Vietnamese person has a virtual assistant. But no matter how smart AI is, it is only an assistant for humans.

“To do that, the Academy must closely follow international training programs, especially those of top schools. However, artificial intelligence training is not far from Vietnamese culture and practice,” the Minister said.

Sharing at the founding ceremony of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Chairman of the Academy Council, said that the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence was established with the mission of not only being a place to train leading experts in the field of AI, but also a center for research and development of the most advanced technological solutions, meeting the urgent needs of society with the continuously increasing demand for human resources in the AI industry.

With the vision of developing the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in the period of 2024-2035, it will become the number 1 unit in training Artificial Intelligence in the country in terms of research and training quality; and strive to be in the top 400-450 universities in the world in Artificial Intelligence research in the period of 2025-2035.

At the same time, promote the activities of specialized research labs on Artificial Intelligence towards excellence and quality of scientific publications according to international standards.

Expand cooperation with strong research groups in the world on artificial intelligence while continuing to support and cooperate in developing AI products with large technology corporations.

Sharing after the launching ceremony of the AI Faculty under the Academy, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Cuong - New Head of the PTIT Artificial Intelligence Faculty said that the Academy's Artificial Intelligence training program is built according to international standards with 2 main areas: Machine Learning and Applied Artificial Intelligence based on advanced training programs from large and prestigious universities in the world such as Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University to equip students with knowledge areas that are both specialized, modern and highly practical to meet the current demand for high-quality AI experts.

The program also includes 01 semester of internship at leading domestic and foreign AI enterprises.

Students studying Artificial Intelligence at the Academy are also led by experienced visiting lecturers from major universities around the world such as Stanford University, MIT, Deakin, UC David, JAIST, KAIST, etc. and major technology companies such as NVIDIA, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, VinAI, FPT, Samsung, NAVER, etc.

The establishment of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence is a concrete action to realize the Academy's orientation and commitment in developing AI human resources. The Faculty will play a leading role in directly training in AI, as well as supporting AI training for other faculties in the Academy.
