According to statistics from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the total revenue of the school in 2023 is 1,515 billion VND, coming from 2 sources: Tuition fees of 675 billion VND and other legal revenue sources of 840 billion VND. Thus, this is the first medical university in Vietnam to join the trillion VND revenue club.
Currently, in Vietnam, there are more than 11 universities with revenue of thousands of billions of VND, including 7 public universities: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, National Economics University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The main source of revenue for schools comes from tuition fees, with very little revenue from other sources, especially scientific research and technology transfer.
For example, at Ton Duc Thang University, the total revenue in 2023 is 1,157 billion VND, of which, revenue from tuition fees accounts for 997.4 billion VND, revenue from scientific research, innovation, knowledge transfer and sponsorship is only 53.22 billion VND. This school also has other legal revenue sources of 102.35 billion VND and a budget of 4.23 billion VND.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry's revenue in 2023 is 1,011.5 billion VND, of which 907.9 billion VND is from tuition fees and only 4.37 billion VND is from science and technology - this level is less than half compared to 9.27 billion VND in 2022.
At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, revenue from science and technology is also modest, although the total revenue is over 2,000 billion VND. In 2023, this university had a revenue of 2,137 billion VND, of which the main source of revenue came from tuition fees with 1,430 billion VND, and the budget of 290 billion VND. Although it is the leading technical university in the country, the revenue from scientific research and technology transfer of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is only 18 billion VND. Compared to 2022, the revenue of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2023 has doubled.
The revenue of the National Economics University will reach over 1,400 billion VND in 2023, of which more than 1,014 billion VND will come from tuition fees, 324 billion VND from other sources, and revenue from scientific research and technology transfer will be 42.95 billion VND.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, total revenue in 2023 is 1,721.4 billion VND, of which 1,068.8 billion VND is from tuition fees. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer of this university is up to 526.6 billion VND - a fairly large number today. In addition, this university also has other legal sources of revenue of 118.7 billion and 7.3 billion VND from the budget.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, revenue in 2023 is 1,003 billion VND, of which 672 billion VND is from tuition fees, only 44.4 billion VND from scientific research and technology transfer; 102.4 billion VND from the budget and 184.4 billion VND from other legal sources.
In the private sector, FPT University has the highest revenue, reaching nearly 2,920 billion VND in 2023. Next is Van Lang University with 2,286 billion VND.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology also has a revenue of 1,260 billion VND in 2023, of which 1,235 billion VND is from tuition fees and 14 billion VND from other sources. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer is only 11 billion VND.
At Nguyen Tat Thanh University, revenue in 2023 will reach VND1,475 billion, of which tuition fees account for 99%, or VND1,454 billion. Revenue from scientific research and technology transfer will be VND11.77 billion, and from other sources VND9.7 billion.
