Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of November 29, Mr. Huynh Bong, in charge of the student affairs department, University of Education (University of Da Nang), said that after the touching story of Pham Nguyen Thanh Lam, a blind new student of the psychology - education department, who was picked up and fed by his 87-year-old grandmother from the countryside since entering university, the school's board of directors met and agreed to invite the grandmother and grandchild to stay for free in the dormitory.
"The school's Youth Union and Student Association also visited the dormitory where Lam and her grandmother are staying to visit and give gifts. From now on, the school will also prioritize scholarships.
The school has arranged a room in the dormitory located on campus. According to regulations, cooking is not allowed, but Lam and her grandmother have very special circumstances, so they will be arranged to cook in a separate kitchen," said Mr. Bong.
To spread the story of Lam's determination to study and the sacrifice of Lam's 87-year-old grandmother, Huynh Thi Hong, Mr. Bong said that in the meeting on the afternoon of November 29, Da Nang University of Education also invited Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Lan - the homeroom teacher to share the story.
Ms. Lan was moved and said she did not think her student's situation would spread and receive as much attention as it does now.

A philanthropist contacted Lam to provide monthly support for the four years of study. More touchingly, a student in Lam's class asked the school to let him live with his blind friend in the dormitory, taking on the role of Lam's grandmother in taking care of him until he graduated.
"We have discussed with the family to put the grandmother and grandchild in the dormitory. If we can stay, it will be very convenient for traveling and studying, it will not cost much and it will be right on the school campus.
Lam's grandmother is now old and weak, so she needs to go back to her hometown to rest. If the family agrees, Lam's classmates will move in with her so that her grandmother can return home with peace of mind," said Ms. Lan.
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , out of pity for her blind niece who could not take care of herself when she passed the university entrance exam, Ms. Huynh Thi Hong (87 years old, residing in Tien Phuoc, Quang Nam) left her hometown to go to the city to pick up and take care of Pham Nguyen Thanh Lam - a first-year student in the psychology - education department.
Since the beginning of the school year, the image of an old woman with white hair, holding an old hat in her hand, standing in front of the gate of Da Nang University of Education, picking up and dropping off her granddaughter has caused strong emotions.
Pham Nguyen Thanh Lam's family said he suffered from glaucoma, which damaged his optic nerve and led to him becoming completely blind in 8th grade.
