No opening ceremony, hope partners convert flower gift cost into money to support flood areas

Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry refused to accept congratulatory flowers from agencies, businesses, and partners at the opening ceremony held this morning (September 16), for a special reason.

"In the context of storm No. 3 causing extremely heavy damage, with the spirit of mutual love and deep sharing, the school wishes to join with agencies, units and partners to support the people of the North with the most practical feelings and actions" - the school informed.

At the same time, the school hopes that the cost of giving flowers will be transferred by the partner to the Northern Compatriots Support Fund of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, to contribute a part of the cost to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3.

In the recent opening ceremony, the University of Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City also mobilized and called on all delegates, guests, civil servants and students to support the people of the North with the most practical actions. The school informed the accounts calling for support of the Vietnam Fatherland Front so that everyone could support people in the flood areas.

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City decided not to hold the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year to use the funds to support people in flood-hit areas.

Previously, the school planned to hold the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year on the morning of September 27. At this point, all preparations have been thoroughly carried out and are almost complete. However, according to the school representative, sharing and supporting the community is more necessary at this time.

The entire cost of organizing the opening ceremony, 100 million VND, will be transferred by the school to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. In addition, the school is launching a campaign calling on officials, employees and students to continue to contribute to support the program.

“Although we know that this is always a special occasion in the hearts of every young person and new student, the school believes that this year's opening ceremony is truly meaningful. And the most important thing at this time is the tradition of solidarity and mutual love of "Humanists" - the school said.

The school leaders also hope that students, partners, employees, and parents will understand, sympathize, support, and accompany the school.

Lecturers and students donate billions of dong

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry announced that the amount of money donated to flood victims is more than 3.6 billion VND. This is the contribution of staff, civil servants, students and from the school's budget.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has reserved 100 scholarships, each worth 10 million VND, to award to disadvantaged students of courses 47, 48, 49 and 50 with permanent residence in 26 northern localities directly affected by storm No. 3 in 2024, including: Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Son La, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh, Vinh Phuc and Thanh Hoa.

In addition, to support all students and families in the 26 provinces and cities mentioned above to reduce financial pressure during the current difficult time, the school has extended the tuition payment deadline for the next semester to January 15, 2025 instead of next November.

A representative of Nguyen Tat Thanh University said that the school has raised more than 600 million VND to support people in flood-hit areas. At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, lecturers, staff and employees have donated about 400 million VND. The school calls on everyone to continue to support according to their ability. Staff and employees of Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport have raised more than 400 million VND to support people in the North.
