Early morning of February 9 (30th of the Lunar New Year), at the construction site of Nhon Trach bridge project, the sound of machinery replaced spring music, the color of construction site uniforms replaced the yellow of apricot blossoms, the pink of peach blossoms... Hundreds of workers and technical staff this year had to be away from home, celebrating Tet right at the construction site to race to meet the progress.

The workers did not take a day off, and Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of My Thuan Project Management Board (investor) did not have a day off either. Mr. Thi said that in the 7 days from February 7 to February 14 (28 to 5 of Tet), 105 technical staff, workers and 32 types of equipment, divided into 13 construction teams, will work non-stop throughout Tet.
The main construction items are PHC pile driving for load-reducing floors, temporary works; bored piles; beam casting and reinforced concrete construction of the bridge base, body and bridge cap beams.
Workers work through holidays and Tet
"The project has a total of 2 construction packages. The accumulated output to date is equivalent to 39.73% of the total contract value. Of which, package CW1 (Nhon Trach bridge, 2,600m long) has achieved 60.13%/60.08% of the approved shortened plan, striving to complete the package before April 30, 2025, 4 months ahead of the contract schedule. Meanwhile, package CW2 (access roads at both ends of the bridge, 5,620m long) started construction on May 29, 2023 and has only achieved 8.93% of the progress, slower than required due to not having enough clean land handed over for construction. Therefore, during the 2024 New Year holiday, the Nhon Trach bridge project did not "shut down". All human resources of the two packages were mobilized to work continuously on the construction site" - Mr. Tran Van Thi added.

According to the investor representative, due to the characteristics of the Southern region, the rainy and stormy season greatly affects the construction work, especially in the context that the entire project must be constructed underwater, on large rivers. During thunderstorms and strong winds, workers must temporarily stop construction to ensure safety as well as the quality of the project. Therefore, immediately after the project started, the My Thuan Project Management Board directed the contractor to mobilize all human resources, materials and equipment to carry out massive construction on the entire construction site (the part that already has the ground level).
Since then, the units have deployed 3-4 shifts, day and night, working through holidays and Lunar New Year, taking advantage of the dry season to gradually complete the workload on the construction site. Although there is not yet enough land, My Thuan Project Management Board has been requiring all contractors to focus on implementing the construction as soon as the land is available, taking advantage of every little bit when the land is available, especially the locations where weak soil treatment is the critical path of the project's progress.
In addition, with the construction experience of the contractors and the advice of a foreign supervision consultant (Korea), the parties have also considered relevant measures to minimize the impact and have a backup plan for the project.
On the morning of the 30th of Lunar New Year, the Nhon Trach bridge construction site was still bustling with the sound of machinery.
Regarding the difficulty of construction site, Ho Chi Minh City has handed over 100% of the clean site, and the CW1 package has basically enough site to start construction. However, the actual site that the contractor can access for construction in the CW2 package is only about 1,700m/5,000m (35%) of the total length of the route in Dong Nai province. The remaining sites are "stuck" and inconsistent, so machinery and equipment cannot be brought in for construction. Nhon Trach Bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge only have 19 months left to complete according to the contract. Meanwhile, the time to load and treat the weak ground on the Dong Nai side has some sections up to 15 months.
"With the highest working spirit, the contractor is trying to complete package CW1 earlier than the contract, determined to shorten the project progress. However, the site is a very important issue at present. Therefore, Dong Nai province must speed up the progress of compensation and site clearance and hand over the clean site to the project this February so that the project can be implemented and completed synchronously according to the signed contract", Mr. Tran Van Thi emphasized.
