On the eve of New Year's Eve, the 6.9 trillion VND Nhon Trach bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province is still under construction at full speed.

Early in the morning of February 9th (the 30th day of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Dragon), on the Nhon Trach bridge construction site, the rumbling of machinery replaced the sounds of spring music, and the yellow of apricot blossoms and the pink of peach blossoms replaced the colors of construction workers' uniforms... Hundreds of workers and technical staff had to be away from home this year, celebrating Tet right on the construction site to race against time.

The Nhon Trach bridge construction site is part of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project.

The workers are working non-stop, and Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board (the investor), is also working without a day off. Mr. Thi stated that during the 7 days from February 7th to 14th (the 28th of the lunar year to the 5th day of the Lunar New Year), 105 technical staff and workers, along with 32 pieces of equipment of various types, divided into 13 construction teams, will work throughout the Tet holiday without interruption.

The main construction items include PHC pile driving for the load-reducing slab and temporary structures; bored piles; beam casting and reinforced concrete construction for the bridge's foundation, body, and cap beams.

The workers worked throughout the holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year).

"The project has a total of two construction packages. The cumulative output to date is equivalent to 39.73% of the total contract value. Of these, package CW1 (Nhon Trach Bridge, 2,600m long) has reached 60.13%/60.08% of the approved shortened plan, striving to complete the package before April 30, 2025, four months ahead of the contract schedule. Meanwhile, package CW2 (access roads at both ends of the bridge, 5,620m long), which started on May 29, 2023, has only reached 8.93% of the progress, behind schedule due to insufficient handover of cleared land for construction. Therefore, the Nhon Trach Bridge project will not be shut down during the 2024 New Year holiday. All personnel from both packages will be mobilized to work continuously on the construction site," Mr. Tran Van Thi further informed.

According to the investor's representative, the rainy and stormy season in Southern Vietnam significantly impacts construction work, especially since the entire project is being constructed underwater on a major river. During thunderstorms and strong winds, workers have to temporarily halt construction to ensure safety and maintain the quality of the project. Therefore, immediately after the project commenced, the My Thuan Project Management Board directed the contractor to mobilize sufficient manpower, materials, and equipment to carry out intensive construction across the entire site (where land was already available).

Since then, the units have been working in 3 shifts - 4 teams day and night, working through holidays and Lunar New Year, taking advantage of the dry season to accelerate the completion of work on the construction site. Although not all the land is available, the My Thuan Project Management Board has been requiring all contractors to focus intensely on construction wherever land is available, taking advantage of every opportunity, especially in locations with weak soil treatment, which is a critical path for the project's progress.

In addition, with the contractors' construction experience and the advice of the foreign (South Korea) supervision consultant, the parties also considered relevant measures to minimize the impact and developed contingency plans for the project.

On the morning of the 30th day of the Lunar New Year, the construction site of the Nhon Trach bridge was still bustling with activity, the sound of machinery echoing loudly.

Regarding difficulties with construction site access, Ho Chi Minh City has handed over 100% of the cleared land, and package CW1 has essentially sufficient land for construction to begin. However, for package CW2, the actual land accessible to the contractor for construction is only about 1,700m/5,000m (35%) of the total length of the route in Dong Nai province. The remaining areas have fragmented and inconsistent land, making it impossible to bring in machinery and equipment for construction. The Nhon Trach Bridge and the roads at both ends of the bridge are only 19 months away from completion according to the contract. Meanwhile, the time required for soil stabilization and treatment in some sections within Dong Nai province can reach up to 15 months.

"With the highest level of dedication, the contractor is striving to complete package CW1 ahead of schedule, determined to shorten the project timeline. However, land acquisition is a crucial issue currently. Therefore, Dong Nai province must expedite the compensation and land clearance process and hand over a clean site to the project this February so that construction can begin and the project can be completed synchronously according to the signed contract," Mr. Tran Van Thi emphasized.
