Students make paper fireworks, draw lucky money envelopes, and create toys at the STEM festival taking place before the Lunar New Year 2025.
This morning, January 20, at Thuan Kieu Primary School, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, the STEM Festival with the theme "Inspiring Creativity from Experiences" took place. In the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year approaching, about 1,300 students participated in many interesting activities of the festival.
Many STEM products made by students
The STEM festival includes a recycled fashion show by students of all grades, a STEM product display area by students from grades 1 to 5, a product presentation contest by students, and booths for students to experience and have fun.
The judges will visit each student’s booth to inspect and score their STEM presentations. The results of this competition will be announced on January 22, the day of the school’s Spring Festival of Love.
Ms. Le Thi Thoa, Principal of Thuan Kieu Primary School, said that all the products displayed at today's festival were made by students of all classes under the guidance of homeroom teachers in the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, from STEM education activities.
From the 2023-2024 school year, STEM education activities have been implemented in many primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City. At Thuan Kieu Primary School, STEM is built by homeroom teachers based on the duration of subjects and educational activities related to the lesson in a scientific, flexible, and psychologically appropriate manner, not overloading students, and is reflected in the school's educational plan.
STEM Festival inspired by Lunar New Year
On the morning of January 20, guests coming to the school were able to admire many unique STEM products made by students themselves, flexibly applying knowledge from subjects such as table and chair cleaners made from orange, lemon, and lemongrass peels (applying knowledge from natural and social sciences); family trees (integrated knowledge from computer science, natural and social sciences, and fine arts); making a Roman numeral clock from cardboard (main knowledge from math); growing beans in eggshells (main knowledge from science)...
"The STEM festival is an opportunity for students to have fun, learn through play, and increase their own experiences to become more creative. This is even more meaningful as the Lunar New Year approaches, when students can observe, learn, and make products such as paper fireworks, lucky money, etc. and bring them home, adding to the joy with their loved ones," said the Principal of Thuan Kieu Primary School.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of equipping learners with knowledge and skills related to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics - in an interdisciplinary approach and learners can apply to solve problems in everyday life. Instead of teaching four separate and discrete subjects, STEM combines them into a cohesive learning model based on practical applications.
