China is focusing on preparing to hold the annual Two Sessions in Beijing, including the Second Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Second Session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC).
Security has been tightened across Beijing, especially around the Great Hall of the People, key areas and roads leading to the annual event. Beijing residents have been notified of restricted routes and travel times. Chinese authorities have also set up a no-fly zone over the capital city during the Two Sessions.
This year's Two Sessions kick off with the opening of the Second Session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee on March 4, and the Second Session of the 14th NPC on March 5. During the sessions, Chinese policymakers are expected to announce a series of economic and social development targets for this year, including the annual GDP growth target as well as policies to achieve these goals.
Earlier, the Politburo of the Communist Party of China met to discuss the government work report submitted ahead of next week's meeting. The report will be submitted by Premier Li Qiang and voted on at the annual session of the National People's Congress starting on March 5.
The annual Two Sessions is one of the most important political events for the world's second-largest economy, setting priorities and plans related to the economy, diplomacy, military and social development for 2024.
