China, South Korea, Japan want to make ASEAN a "growth epicenter"

(Dan Tri) - Affirming the importance of ASEAN, partners China, South Korea, and Japan share the desire to cooperate extensively and promote dialogue with ASEAN, joining hands to make the region a center of economic growth.

The ASEAN Summit with China, South Korea and Japan took place on the morning of September 6, within the framework of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related summits, taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The partners all affirmed their respect for ASEAN, their desire for deep and substantive cooperation, and their promotion of dialogue with ASEAN.

At the ASEAN-China Summit, Chinese Premier Li Qiang highlighted the importance of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and said that this was achieved thanks to the efforts of both sides.

ASEAN-China two-way trade turnover was reported to have reached a new record of 722 billion USD. China has also become ASEAN's largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that the mutual relationship between China and ASEAN is a solid foundation for the comprehensive strategic partnership to develop strongly.

The Prime Minister hopes that China and ASEAN will not only be each other's largest economic and trade partners, but also one of each other's most important comprehensive strategic partners for peace, cooperation and development.

The head of the Vietnamese Government suggested that ASEAN and China need to coordinate to make the region a center of economic growth; take advantage to promote connectivity, ensure production and supply chains, and expand cooperation in developing the digital economy and green economy.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister proposed that China expand its market, increase the quota of transit goods and speed up the opening process for agricultural, aquatic and fruit products of ASEAN countries to transit through Vietnam to penetrate the Chinese market.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be effective, maintain a peaceful, stable, cooperative and mutually developing environment in the region, and be a positive factor in promoting trust building, enhancing dialogue, and peacefully resolving disputes in the region, including the East Sea.

At the 24th ASEAN-Korea Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides work together to open a new journey with a longer-term vision and higher goals.

The head of the Vietnamese Government emphasized that the two sides need to create a major shift in economic cooperation, promoting trade and investment in a balanced and sustainable direction.

He also hopes that Korea will open its market for export goods such as agricultural and aquatic products and seasonal fruits from ASEAN countries, creating conditions for ASEAN businesses to expand investment opportunities in Korea.

In order to enhance cooperation for a sustainable development future for the people, the Prime Minister suggested that the two sides further promote cooperation in digital transformation, biotechnology, high-tech electronics, semiconductors, clean energy, smart cities, etc.

The Prime Minister stressed that ASEAN and the Republic of Korea need to coordinate to elevate their partnership, share common interests and responsibilities in ensuring peace, security, stability and development in the region, including the East Sea and the Korean Peninsula.

Currently, Korea is ASEAN's 5th largest trade and investment partner, with two-way trade turnover reaching over 222 billion USD and total FDI from Korea reaching 12.7 billion USD in 2022.

At the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida highlighted the importance of a trustworthy partnership with ASEAN. He affirmed his support for ASEAN’s solidarity and central role, and pledged to actively participate in and effectively contribute to ASEAN-led mechanisms.

Japan is currently ASEAN's fourth largest trading partner and second largest investment partner, with trade turnover reaching 268.5 billion USD, up 11.2% over the same period last year. Total investment capital from Japan reached 26.7 billion USD, up 27.7% over the same period last year.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed making economic cooperation a key pillar and driving force to promote the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Discussing regional and international issues, ASEAN reaffirmed its common stance on regional and international situations, including issues such as the situation in the East Sea, Myanmar, and the Korean Peninsula.

Partner countries acknowledged and positively assessed ASEAN's stance, and pledged to coordinate to promote satisfactory resolution of emerging issues.

Faced with increasingly complex and unpredictable changes in the region and the world, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that ASEAN and its partners share common interests and responsibilities in ensuring peace, security, stability and development in the region, including the East Sea.
