Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said on November 28 that the Chinese Communist Party "has decided to suspend the position of General Political Department Director Miao Hua pending investigation."
The spokesman did not provide further details about the charges against Miao Hua, a member of China's Central Military Commission. However, the phrase "serious disciplinary violations" is often used by officials in China to refer to corruption.
Miao Hua, 68, was the political director of the 31st Corps in 1999 when Xi was still in Fujian. He later became political commissar of the Chinese Navy and currently holds the rank of admiral.
At today's press conference, Mr. Ngo Khiem also denied the information that Defense Minister Dong Quan is being investigated for corruption.
Dong Jun was appointed China's defense minister in December last year after his predecessor Li Shangfu was dismissed after seven months in the job. Li was later expelled from the party over bribery allegations. He has not been seen in public since.
