Within the framework of the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting (AFMGM-12) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Central Bank of Malaysia opened an art exhibition introducing collections of paintings and literary works by famous artists and authors from 10 ASEAN member countries at the Bank of Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery (BNM MAG).

Artist Nguyen Tuan Son representing Vietnam has 2 works selected to be displayed at the exhibition.

The opening ceremony was attended by 10 central bank governors representing ASEAN member countries, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and cooperation in the region.

According to a VNA reporter in Kuala Lumpur, the exhibition displays more than 150 works of art from ASEAN countries, including some valuable works such as wood sculptures from Malaysia, aluminum sculptures from Brunei and fabric art from Indonesia.

BNM MAG Director Noreen Zulkepli said the exhibition is not only an opportunity to display valuable works of art, but also a “gateway” for ASEAN member countries to understand meaningful stories and share historical stories, which are bridges that help ASEAN countries come closer together through art. The exhibition also proves that culture has the power to bridge distances and create dialogue that resonates across time.

Artist Nguyen Tuan Son was born in 1978 and graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2010. He is the head of the Fine Arts Department at Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School, Hanoi National University of Education. His works are inspired by Vietnamese literature such as the Tale of Kieu and Ho Xuan Huong's poems... He has had 9 solo exhibitions in Vietnam.

Speaking to VNA reporters at the exhibition, artist Nguyen Tuan Son expressed his honor to participate in the painting exhibition in Kuala Lumpur this time and was happy that two of his works were selected from thousands of entries.

It is a painting inspired by the Tale of Kieu, titled “The Sword, the Saddle, and Kieu.” The painting talks about the strong will, daring to think and act of the character Tu Hai in the story. Through this work, he wants to convey the message that Vietnam will “take off, dare to think, dare to act for a more prosperous future.”

Located behind the Central Bank of Malaysia headquarters, BNM MAG has six galleries including the Children's Gallery, Malaysian Banking History Gallery, Economic Gallery, Islamic Finance Gallery, Currency Gallery and Art Gallery.

The galleries show visitors the role of banking in Malaysia's economic development and the country's financial landscape since before Malaysia's independence on 31 August 1957 to the present.

To reinforce the bank’s role as the leading national currency and supporter of artistic heritage, the Museum also showcases historical currencies as well as a collection of Malaysia and ASEAN’s most iconic artworks./.
