Salvaging sunken, derelict ships under the bridge in Yen Bai

Due to the impact of storm No. 3, a series of sand and gravel suction ships were swept away on the Chay River, collided with To Mau Bridge (Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province) and sank. Despite widespread announcement, the ship owner did not come to claim the ship. Currently, the authorities are conducting salvage operations.

A representative of the Road Maintenance Management Board of Yen Bai province said that due to the impact of storm No. 3 causing prolonged heavy rain, combined with floods from upstream, the water level of the Chay River passing through To Mau bridge (Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province) rose suddenly, sweeping away a number of dredgers, sand and gravel suction ships... drifting freely, colliding with the bridge, leading to sinking and getting stuck under the bridge.

Authorities have issued notices three times to find the owners, managers or legal users of the metal watercraft that sank and got stuck under To Mau bridge, but no organization or individual has come forward to claim them.

After inspecting the structure of the bridge span and piers, to ensure safety for waterway traffic, the Department of Construction of Yen Bai province has deployed the salvage of sunken vehicles to clear the flow, ensuring safe traffic before the flood season.

The components were salvaged.

A representative of Hai Nga Transport Company Limited - the unit carrying out the salvage, said that because the ships had been submerged for a long time, the mud and dirt were thick, causing many difficulties in the salvage process. In addition, many parts of the ship were damaged and no longer intact. The company had to mobilize more than 40 workers, along with many cranes and heavy machinery to carry out the work, expected to be completed this April.
