Lieutenant Vuong was diagnosed with meningitis, with a severe prognosis, beyond the ability of the infirmary on An Bang Island to provide medicine, so he had to be taken to the mainland for emergency treatment.
On January 3, the Southern Helicopter Company (18th Corps) mobilized an EC225 helicopter (registration number VN-8620) to carry out an emergency mission. The flight crew took off from Vung Tau to Tan Son Nhat airport to pick up the medical team, then urgently flew to Truong Sa.
