The Qatari referee officiated the match between U17 Vietnam and U17 UAE. This is the match that decides the ticket to attend the World Cup, taking place at 10pm tonight (April 10).
Vietnamese football fans not only pay attention to the events on the field, but also pay special attention to the referee team controlling the match.
Referee Mohammed Al-Shammari, the "man in black" from Qatar, will be officiating this match. Mr. Al-Shammari, 34, has experience of officiating at Asian youth tournaments.
According to statistics in 2025, he officiated a total of 17 matches at all levels, showing 54 yellow cards and 3 red cards, an average of more than 3 cards per match. This shows that he is a referee with a strict style and management.
Before being assigned to the main refereeing duties, Mr. Al-Shammari was commonly known as an assistant to referee Falahi Salman Ahmad, also from Qatar.
In the important match between Indonesia and Vietnam in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Mr. Al-Shammari took on the position of table referee, assisting referee Ahmad.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)'s trust in Qatari referees, including Mr. Al-Shammari, to officiate important matches shows their ability and prestige in the continental refereeing community. This also partly reassures domestic fans about the fairness and objectivity of the match between U17 Vietnam and U17 UAE.
This match is very important, deciding the ticket to attend the World Cup of U17 Vietnam as well as U17 UAE. U17 Vietnam must win the opponent if it wants to participate in the U17 World Cup for the first time in history.
