Mr. Ngo Van Binh's family in Thanh Huong 3 village, Loc Thanh commune, Bao Loc city is harvesting chili. Mr. Ngo Van Binh said that completely different from the types of chili commonly known in Vietnam such as bell pepper, Siamese chili, high-yield chili..., Habanero chili originates from Africa, with a strange shape and special flavor.

Picking a Habanero chili in his hand, Mr. Ngo Van Binh shared: “This Habanero chili has a similar shape to a small bell pepper. But the flavor of the chili is very special, extremely spicy, a spicy taste completely different from traditional Vietnamese chili. Currently, our family is growing Habanero chili under a contract with a business, specializing in serving the production of chili sauce.”

According to Mr. Ngo Van Binh, his family grows chili under a contract with a company specializing in processing chili sauce. With special chili sauces, Habanero chili gives standard flavor and color. According to the introduction of Mimosa Tek Company, a company specializing in supporting smart agricultural solutions in Lam Dong, Mr. Vu Van Binh's family signed a contract to grow Habanero chili. Accordingly, the company will provide chili seedlings to farmers. At the same time, it will transfer farming techniques to farmers and fully purchase the products.

Unlike other hot peppers that are usually grown on the ground, Habanero peppers are grown similarly to bell peppers, the plants are grown in a bag of substrate. Mr. Ngo Van Binh shared: “My family grows two chili plants in one bag. The care regimen for chili plants is quite easy, with drip irrigation and fertilizer through the irrigation system. Habanero peppers are characterized by fast growth, the plants are rarely affected by diseases, just pay attention to leaf care, ensure the irrigation regime to have chili fruit to harvest”.

According to Mr. Ngo Van Binh, after two months, from a 15cm tall chili pepper plant, the family began to harvest the chili peppers. Habanero peppers come in many shapes depending on the variety, including the wrinkled chili pepper, often called the super spicy “devil face” chili pepper. Every morning, the family harvests the chili peppers, choosing the ripe red ones to harvest.

According to Mr. Binh, the company requires picking red ripe chili peppers because at that time, the chili peppers will have the most intense flavor and spiciness, suitable for the chili sauce making process. According to information provided by the company when signing the contract, the yield of each chili pepper plant is 2 kg. The family can harvest continuously for 7 months, after which the chili pepper garden will gradually decrease in yield. With 2,500 chili pepper plants, Mr. Binh's family will harvest 6 tons of fruit per sao. Currently, he is in the fourth month of harvesting and according to him, the yield will be similar to the information provided by the company.

“The price that the enterprise guarantees for Habanero chili products is 63,000 VND/kg. This is not a very high number, but in return, farmers are very stable because when planting, they know the actual income from the chili garden,” Mr. Ngo Van Binh shared.

In addition, Habanero pepper plants are easy to care for and have few diseases. Growers only need to prevent fungus, thrips, and red spider mites when the pepper plants are still young. After 30 days of planting, when they are quite strong, the pepper plants are almost disease-free. At the same time, Mimosa Tek Company guides farmers on how to care for peppers effectively, use biological drugs, and quarantine at the right time. Therefore, growing peppers always ensures the health of farmers as well as the quality of Habanero peppers.

Currently, in Loc Thanh commune, some farmers have switched from growing other vegetables in greenhouses to growing Habanero peppers under contracts with businesses, said Ms. Vu Thi Yen - Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Loc Thanh commune. Habanero peppers require being grown in greenhouses, on substrates, similar to bell peppers. However, this is a new variety, grown for the purpose of processing chili sauce, and is very difficult to sell on the open market, so farmers need to ensure they have an output consumption contract before planting, Ms. Yen informed.

Many farmers in the Loc Thanh area have signed contracts with businesses to sell their products, planting Habanero chili peppers, bringing in a new source of income, while also providing businesses with super spicy chili peppers that meet standards, ensuring the quality of Vietnamese-branded chili sauce.

Ms. Vu Thi Yen also said that the Farmers' Association always encourages farmers to grow agricultural products under contracts, ensuring safe output, bringing stable income to farmers, and at the same time, farmers are also supported by businesses to transfer modern farming techniques.
