Through the work of grasping the situation, the authorities discovered an illegal drug trafficking ring between Lao Cai and Ha Giang provinces operating with extremely sophisticated and closed methods and tricks, mainly through intermediaries to conceal the crime. At around 2:00 p.m. on June 7, a working group on duty in Viet Lam commune, Vi Xuyen district discovered and caught red-handed Le Quang Chien (born in 1977), residing in Quang Trung ward, Ha Giang city, illegally possessing drugs.
The task force seized 2 plastic bags containing white powder in lumps and 18 small paper packages containing white powder. Initially, Chien confessed that the evidence was heroin.
Expanding the investigation, the authorities executed an emergency search warrant at the residence of Nguyen Thi Linh (born in 1981), residing in Tan Quang commune, Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province. During the search, they seized 1 plastic bag containing white powder in lumps; 1 plastic bottle containing 3 plastic bags containing powder in lumps and many objects, documents, and cash related to the illegal buying, selling, and storing of drugs.
Based on the documents, the police agency executed an emergency search warrant at the residence of Pham Thi Nhat (born in 1976), residing in Tan Quang commune, Bac Quang district. Here, it was discovered that Nhat's son, Nguyen Tuan Hiep (born in 1992), was illegally possessing weapons and explosives including: 1 CPU gun, 1 alcohol gun, 1 pellet gun, 2 tear gas canisters, 1 long sword, 1 sharp knife, and many other objects related to drug-related crimes.
At the same time, another reconnaissance team caught Nguyen Tien Khan (born in 1977), residing in Quang Trung ward, Ha Giang city, traveling in a personal car in Dong Tam commune, Bac Quang district, and seized 2 packages of drugs hidden in the car.
Based on the collected evidence, on the same day, the investigation agency executed an emergency detention order against Nguyen Van Quyen (born in 1974), residing in Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province, to investigate and clarify the subject's role in the network. The case is currently under further investigation and expansion.
