Stemming from his passion for agriculture, Mr. Cao Van Hung (Binh Khe commune, Dong Trieu city) chose to develop a hydroponic pennywort growing model. Mr. Hung said: Hydroponics can be simply understood as a technique of growing plants without using soil but growing on a substrate. Nutrients from hydroponic solutions will replace nutrients from the soil. Substrates are substances that have the effect of fixing plants and retaining moisture. Usually the substrates used will be coconut fiber, foam, baked clay... The biggest advantage of this farming method is that it does not use soil so there are no pests, isolating parasites, heavy metals, producing safe vegetables. In addition, it can be harvested all year round, with high productivity on the same unit area and requires little care.
Currently, Mr. Hung's hydroponic pennywort farm is about 750m2 in size, harvesting about 70kg of fresh pennywort every day with prices ranging from 30,000-35,000 VND/kg. In addition, Mr. Hung is also aiming to process pennywort powder and provide growing media and seedlings for farms in need.
From the effectiveness of this model, at the beginning of this year, the Farmers' Association of Duc Chinh Ward (Dong Trieu City) also expanded the model to its members and farmers. Currently, 16 households have participated. The association has coordinated to support seedlings, hydroponic systems, and provide technical guidance on care... According to Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Hoa, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Duc Chinh Ward: This farming method ensures food hygiene and safety, saves space, and is easy to manage diseases... In addition, the hydroponic pennywort growing model also has outstanding advantages in terms of productivity and environmental friendliness due to the lack of pesticides. This is also an opportunity for clean vegetable growing models to develop, bringing economic efficiency to farmers in the ward.
The prospect of organic farming brings opportunities for the passion fruit growing model of Truong Giang Agricultural Cooperative (Dam Ha commune, Dam Ha district). Starting the trial at the end of 2023 with the planting and care process according to Global GAP standards, up to now, 3 hectares of purple passion fruit of the Cooperative have begun to yield with an output of about 20 tons of fruit/ha. Mr. Dinh Van Giang, Director of the Cooperative, said: Currently, the passion fruit products tested meet the standards of not having 570 banned agricultural substances, initially ensuring export conditions. Estimated revenue is about 800 million - 1 billion VND/year after deducting expenses.
Orienting farmers to develop organic agricultural models, local Farmers' Associations have also promoted and mobilized members to change their mindset to safe production, using biological products instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. At the same time, they organize practical experience learning programs; link up with cooperatives and cooperative groups to supply microbiological and organic materials... Typically, Hai Ha District Farmers' Association organizes for members and farmers to visit the organic agricultural production model in Quang Yen; Ha Long City Farmers' Association connects and supports the supply of organic fertilizers to households growing guava and medicinal herbs to develop in the direction of organic agriculture...
