The Vietnam Salt Festival 2025, held for the first time in Bac Lieu, has just ended with many impressive results. New prospects for salt tourism products have also opened up when fundamental and feasible solutions have been more clearly identified, when relevant parties have joined hands to cooperate with a common determination to enhance the value of salt making and salt grains in Bac Lieu.
BRAND BUILDING
It must be affirmed that Bac Lieu salt is famous far and wide, consumers at home and abroad love to use it because the salt has a slightly salty taste and a sweet aftertaste that cannot be found anywhere else. Proof of this is that Koreans choose salt from the land of the Prince of Bac Lieu to make delicious kimchi, chefs in France love to use Bac Lieu salt to prepare dishes. Or the Rach Goc (Ca Mau) three-striped crab fish sauce has a rich flavor thanks to being marinated with Bac Lieu salt...
Although salt has been famous for a long time, the life of salt workers is still precarious, struggling with many bitter salt seasons. To increase the value of salt, in addition to investing in deep processing technology and many other solutions, building a brand for salt field tourism is a task that must be done after the Festival.
Mr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy General Director of the National Tourism Administration, said: “Compared to other types, salt tourism has many new and unique ideas to exploit. However, we must answer the question of how to develop salt tourism. First of all, Bac Lieu must focus on developing a system of destinations in the direction of brand and value. In planning tourist destinations, business establishments need to be associated with the salt tourism model, focusing on the Nha Mat area which has been included by the Government in the list of potential locations to develop into a national tourist area. In particular, building salt culture into unique and interesting stories makes tourists coming to Bac Lieu immediately think of salt”.

DEVELOPMENT JOINT FORCE
No longer a matter of discussion and exchange, the development of salt tourism products has made concrete progress. With the determination to awaken the tourism value of salty fields, Bac Lieu Salt Joint Stock Company and Nam Quoc Group Joint Stock Company have signed a cooperation agreement to develop salt tourism products.
Mr. Tran Le Bao Chau - Chairman of Nam Quoc Group Joint Stock Company, shared: “The salt fields in Bac Lieu have many suitable and unique spaces as check-in points for tourists. To develop it into an attractive product, we must build an experiential journey to "tell" tourists the story of salt making culture, about the love of salt makers for the profession, for salt grains. The recent festival is an opportunity to promote so that tourists know that salt is not only a spice but can also be used for tourism; products with indigenous cultural elements can be exploited if placed in the right experiential space. Therefore, this is both an opportunity and a challenge for Bac Lieu tourism together with travel businesses to turn salt into products along the length of the country, and Bac Lieu is the starting point for this".
Immediately after the Festival, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will join hands with units and localities with salt production areas to effectively implement the Project to improve the value of salt production and processing in the period of 2021 - 2030 in the province. From there, build a salt making experience model linked with eco-tourism spots, wind power fields into a series of products for tourists to enjoy the landscape and experience the unique traditional profession. At the same time, coordinate with the People's Committee of Dong Hai district to develop a plan to organize an annual salt festival to honor the salt making profession, attract tourists to visit and enjoy salt products.
The practical activities and determination of state management agencies, the business community and the support of salt farmers have ignited the belief in the development of salt tourism. From now on, salt field tourism will become a unique product of Bac Lieu, helping salt farmers change their lives on the white fields.
