Exhibition of Brilliant Light Masterpieces of Painting from the Netherlands

On May 26, the exhibition "Bright Light: Masterpieces of Painting from the Netherlands" opened at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.

This is an activity within the framework of the program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - Netherlands diplomatic relations, jointly organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam, the National Museum of the Netherlands - Rijksmuseum and the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, said: This is the first time an exhibition on Dutch painting (15th-19th century) has been held in Vietnam. 69 masterpieces by 66 master painters of European painting in general and the Netherlands in particular, such as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Vemmer... were selected from the collection of the National Museum of the Netherlands - Rijksmuseum, introduced to the Vietnamese art lovers in the form of electronic projections and prints, will help the public explore the element of "light" from a symbolic, metaphorical, and technical perspective.

Through 5 main themes: Landscape, still life, portrait, daily life and spiritual world, the exhibition "Bright Light: Masterpieces of Painting from the Netherlands" recreates and reinterprets the elements of light in the history of Dutch painting, reflecting changes in human perception. Visiting the Exhibition, the Vietnamese public will get closer to classic Dutch masterpieces, learn more about the people, landscape and culture of the Netherlands...

Mr. Kees van Baar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Vietnam, said that the works of art introduced at this exhibition are masterpieces in the Dutch art treasure. "Art has the ability to connect us and bring us closer together. That is also the value and profound meaning of 50 years of bilateral relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands", Ambassador Kees van Baar shared.

Speaking at the Exhibition, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: Over the past 50 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands has achieved important milestones, becoming comprehensive partners and developing strategic partnerships in a number of areas. In recent times, the two sides have effectively cooperated in the fields of culture, sports and tourism, notably projects to preserve cultural heritage, maintain and promote the value of documentary heritage, including valuable historical films about the war for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people through the lens of Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens. This is a clear demonstration of the warm affection and support of the Dutch people for Vietnam. That good relationship has been built in the past, preserved to the present and will be even stronger in the future.

According to Nguyen Phuong Hoa, this exhibition is one of the cultural events of great significance to the relationship between the two countries, creating an opportunity for Vietnamese audiences to admire masterpieces from the greatest painters in the history of European painting in general and the Netherlands in particular.

The exhibition is open until June 11 at the Special Exhibition Room, 1st floor, Building B - Vietnam Fine Arts Museum - 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.
