Hanoi launches measles vaccination campaign in 2024

The goal is that over 95% of children aged 1-5 living in Hanoi who have not received enough doses of measles-containing vaccine as prescribed will receive one dose of measles-rubella (MR) vaccine.

The subjects receiving the vaccine in this plan are children aged 1-5 years old living in Hanoi and medical staff at risk at medical examination and treatment facilities treating measles patients in the city who have not received enough doses of the vaccine as prescribed.

The vaccination implementation time is in the third and fourth quarters of 2024, after the Ministry of Health provides vaccines in all 579 communes, wards, and towns of 30 districts, towns, and cities across the city.

Vaccination locations are at health stations, kindergartens, preschools and other mobile vaccination sites depending on the actual situation in the locality.

The plan excludes subjects who have been vaccinated with measles-containing vaccines or measles-rubella (MR) vaccines or vaccines containing measles and rubella within one month before vaccination and subjects who have received enough doses of measles-containing vaccines as prescribed.

The City People's Committee requested the Hanoi Department of Health to coordinate with the Department of Education and Training in organizing screening of subjects and vaccination at preschools and kindergartens. The People's Committees of districts, towns and cities develop plans to implement measles vaccination campaigns in the area.

At the same time, the City People's Committee requested relevant authorities and units to organize propaganda before, during and after the campaign's implementation about the purpose, meaning, importance, subjects and objectives of the campaign, especially the effectiveness and possible side effects of the vaccine.

In addition, relevant units must preserve vaccines according to regulations, ensure adequate vaccines and vaccination supplies; arrange mobile emergency teams at vaccination sites to promptly handle cases of post-vaccination reactions...

Previously, from September 13 to 20, according to a report from the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), the city recorded two more measles cases; including a 15-month-old girl in Dong Da district who had not been vaccinated against measles and a 7-year-old boy in Hoang Mai district who had not been fully vaccinated against measles.

Thus, from the beginning of 2024 until now, Hanoi has had 6 measles cases.

Proactively monitor, detect early, and promptly handle epidemics and diseases after floods and inundations.

During the past week (September 13-19), Hanoi CDC coordinated with relevant units to monitor, investigate, and handle epidemics in areas with cases and outbreaks.

At the same time, ensure environmental sanitation and disease prevention for flooded areas in Nam Tu Liem, Soc Son, Ba Dinh, Dan Phuong, Thuong Tin, Me Linh, Tay Ho, Hoan Kiem, Thanh Tri. Monitor rabies prevention activities in Soc Son district. Carry out statistics and reporting according to regulations.

According to Hanoi CDC, the peak period of dengue fever epidemic in Hanoi (September-November) is now beginning with complex and unpredictable weather conditions, combined with heavy rain, creating favorable conditions for mosquitoes to transmit dengue fever.

Monitoring results at some outbreaks still recorded insect indexes exceeding the risk threshold, predicting that the number of cases will continue to increase in the coming time.

In addition, measles tends to increase in some provinces and cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa. In Hanoi, there have been scattered measles cases recorded in the area, so it is forecasted that in the coming time, there may continue to be more measles cases recorded, especially in the last 3 months of the year.

Next week, Hanoi CDC will continue to monitor the dengue fever outbreak areas in Quat Dong (Thuong Tin), Phung Xa (Thach That), Khuong Dinh (Thanh Xuan), Thuong Cat (Bac Tu Liem), Tan Hoi (Dan Phuong), Nhat Tan (Tay Ho), Hang Bot (Dong Da), My Hung (Thanh Oai), Hop Dong (Chuong My). Monitor rabies prevention and control activities in Thach That district.

Medical centers of districts, towns and cities organize timely and effective handling of dengue fever cases and outbreaks, especially in outbreak areas with many patients. Continue to implement disease prevention and control measures, ensure environmental hygiene in high-risk areas and areas affected by floods.

Coordinate with departments and organizations to support and guide people to practice personal hygiene, environmental hygiene, and house hygiene immediately after the water recedes (clean the environment as the water recedes); organize spraying of chemicals to kill disease-carrying insects in high-risk areas after cleaning the environment.

Closely monitor and promptly detect cases and outbreaks of infectious diseases occurring during and after floods for timely treatment such as dengue fever, diarrhea, pink eye, flu, cholera, typhoid, etc.

Organize propaganda activities in response to World Rabies Day locally throughout the week of response.

Strengthen communication work, provide timely and complete information on disease situations, and measures to prevent some diseases such as dengue fever, whooping cough, measles, hand, foot and mouth disease, etc.

For vaccine-preventable diseases, people are advised to proactively get fully vaccinated on schedule according to the instructions of the health sector.
