On August 31, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to review the 2023 Summer-Autumn crop production, summarize the 2022 Winter-Autumn crop production, and deploy the 2023 Winter-Autumn crop production plan.
In the 2023 Winter-Spring crop, the whole province has planted 35,392.4 hectares of various crops, of which rice is 31,157.2 hectares. In terms of structure, early-season tea accounts for nearly 30%, mid-season tea nearly 60%, and the rest is late-season tea. The area of planted rice accounts for 46% of the total cultivated area, an increase of more than 1,100 hectares compared to the previous Winter-Spring crop. The area of high-quality rice produced in an organic direction is about 857 hectares.
In general, this Summer-Autumn crop has relatively favorable weather, with scattered rains, so rice and other crops have grown well. However, pests and diseases have emerged earlier with a larger scale and higher level of damage than in the 2022 Summer-Autumn crop, especially planthoppers and leaf rollers that do not appear at the same time, making prevention and control difficult. Therefore, from now until the end of the season, it is necessary to closely monitor the fields and take timely care and prevention measures.
Regarding winter crop production, due to the impact of late harvest of Summer-Autumn rice and prolonged early-season rains, the 2022 winter crop area decreased by nearly 300 hectares compared to the 2021 winter crop, to only 7,839.6 hectares. However, the good news is that production has shifted towards commodities, focusing on intensive investment in high-value crops, forming concentrated growing areas, with contracts linking production and product consumption.
Typical examples include: The model of safe vegetable and medicinal plant production associated with consumption in Dong Phong, Son Lai, Lang Phong communes, Nho Quan district, generating an income of about 150 million VND/ha; the model of high-tech melon growing in Yen Mo, generating an annual revenue of about 4 billion VND; the model of growing sweet corn and medicinal plants in Yen Khanh, etc.
The total production value of the 2022 winter crop at current prices is estimated at 996.2 billion VND, the average production value is estimated at 127.07 million VND/ha.
In the 2023 Winter Crop, the agricultural sector is determined to continue to maintain and develop on a reasonable scale, focusing on practicality and efficiency. The whole province strives to cultivate about 7,800 hectares. Of which, the main crops are corn, peanuts, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers and various vegetables and beans.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing the current situation and difficulties of pests and diseases in the Summer-Autumn crop and proposed solutions to prevent and protect production.
For winter crop production, to ensure efficiency and certainty, many opinions suggest that it is necessary to arrange the season and crop structure reasonably, choose technical advances suitable to production reality, gradually replace old crop varieties to increase productivity and production value; increase irrigation capacity; create conditions for organizations and individuals to accumulate land, apply high technology to form large-scale commodity production areas; promote production linkages according to value chains, promote trade and product consumption...
In particular, continue to effectively implement Resolution No. 32/2022/NQ-HDND dated July 15, 2022, regulating policies to support the development of rural agricultural economy in the province to serve as a driving force to promote production.
