Implementing measures to further deepen Vietnam-Togo relations

Receiving Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Robert Dussey on the afternoon of January 8 at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides coordinate to implement measures to further deepen bilateral relations, especially increasing delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels to strengthen political trust, creating a solid foundation to promote cooperation in all fields; enhancing coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, regional and international organizations such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of the Francophonie, the African Union, etc.

President Luong Cuong emphasized that the visit of Minister Robert Dussey and the Togo delegation is of great significance, contributing to further promoting the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the context that Vietnam and Togo are looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (February 8, 1975 - February 8, 2025).

Affirming that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further deepen cooperative relations with African friends, including the Republic of Togo, the President said that the past 50 years have witnessed positive developments in the relationship between the two countries, but they are still modest and not commensurate with the potential of each country.

The President stressed that the two countries need to identify economy as a priority area of ​​cooperation; increase the exchange of opportunities to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, mining, telecommunications, etc.

Regarding investment, based on the success of foreign investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises such as Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel), Vietnam National Energy Group, the President asked Togo to provide information on investment opportunities and offer preferential policies for Vietnamese enterprises to study investment in Togo.

Regarding agricultural cooperation, with experience in implementing many successful tripartite cooperation projects in Africa, including Togo, and in its role as one of the world's leading agricultural exporters, Vietnam is ready to coordinate with Togo to implement cooperation projects on sharing experiences, transferring technology, and providing experts in the agricultural sector.

Minister Robert Dussey expressed his sincere thanks to the President, Government and people of Vietnam for the warm and friendly reception given to the delegation; respectfully conveyed greetings, New Year greetings 2025 and invitation from Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe to President Luong Cuong to visit Togo at an appropriate time.

On this occasion, Minister Robert Dussey also warmly congratulated the Vietnam national football team on winning the championship. ASEAN CUP 2024 (AFF 2024).

Expressing admiration for the resilient qualities of the Vietnamese people in the past struggle against colonialism and imperialism, the Minister emphasized that Vietnam and Togo currently share a common vision on the path of national development, social stability, and improving people's lives; Togo always admires and supports, considering Vietnam as one of the top priority partners in Asia, wishing to learn from development experiences and strengthen multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam.

Minister Robert Dussey affirmed that his visit to Vietnam is not only to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations but also to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, seaports, etc.; he pledged to actively coordinate and exchange with relevant ministries, branches and agencies of Vietnam to promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

Also at the meeting, President Luong Cuong took the time to share with Togo some lessons and experiences of Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and current socio-economic development; respectfully requested the Minister to convey his regards and invitation to the President of the Republic of Togo Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
