(NLDO) - In the face of the "wave" of artificial intelligence (AI), experts in the field of education have suggested a number of suitable teaching programs and activities.
Recently, more than 100 delegates and reporters who are teachers, lecturers, researchers, and experts from educational institutions in and outside Southeast Asia came to Vietnam to participate in the 15th international conference on English language research and teaching.
Experts from India, Canada, USA, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Philippines, Australia, etc. came to Vietnam to discuss the trend of English teaching in the new era.
At the end of the 2-day conference, many difficulties and advantages in English education were analyzed by experts. Not only Vietnam, many countries in the world are also facing difficulties because of the rapid development of the "AI wave".
Professor Anne Pomerantz, University of Pennsylvania (USA), said that instant translation applications are becoming more and more accurate. AI can create texts that meet strict human requirements in many different languages. With just a smartphone, people can chat with each other, even if they do not speak the same language. Over time, this builds a habit of dependence, without a phone, communication is impossible.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu, Head of the National Foreign Language Project Management Board, commented that classes with diverse levels and different learning styles are being expanded. Collaboration in learning, project building and inquiry-based learning methods help learners take control of their own learning.
"The role of technology and AI in English teaching cannot be underestimated. Tools such as language learning apps, online platforms, and smart tutoring systems provide personalized learning opportunities," said Dr. Huu.

According to Dr. Huu, the role of the education sector today is to make technology applications only a support tool and not a replacement for the role of teachers.
"We can build a community of practice (COP) among English teachers. This will be a solid support network, helping teachers exchange teaching methods and bring students the best educational experience" - Dr. Huu suggested.
Vietnam ranks in the group with low English proficiency index.
Recently, Education First announced the 2024 global English proficiency index rankings. According to the rankings, Vietnam ranked 63/116 with 498 points, in the group with low English proficiency, down 5 places compared to 2023.
In Asia, Vietnam ranks 8th, after Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), South Korea, Nepal and Bangladesh.
