In early December 2024, Ninh Giang ward (Hoa Lu city) solemnly held a ceremony to receive, pay tribute and bury the remains of martyr Bui Van Sy from the martyrs' cemetery of Hanh Dung commune, Nghia Hanh district (Quang Ngai) to his hometown cemetery.
Martyr Bui Van Sy (born in 1932) died in a battle in Quang Ngai province on March 3, 1969. His grave was buried at the Martyrs' Cemetery in Hanh Dung commune, Nghia Hanh district (Quang Ngai). Martyr Bui Van Sy died at a young age, leaving behind old parents, a widow and young children, the youngest child who had never known his father. His family was awarded the "Golden Board of Honor" by the Prime Minister, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi To (mother of martyr Bui Van Sy) was posthumously awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother.
For more than half a century, the family has been actively searching, with the desire to bring the martyr back to his hometown. On December 8, 2024, after many efforts from the family, support from the Department of Home Affairs, the Military Command of Ninh Binh province, the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Ngai province, and the Management Board of the Martyrs' Cemetery of Hanh Dung commune, the martyr's remains were moved to his hometown cemetery for burial.
Comrade Bui Quoc Tri, Chairman of Ninh Giang Ward People's Committee shared: The ceremony took place solemnly and respectfully with the participation of many agencies and units of the province and city and many relatives of the martyrs. The Party Committee, Government and People of Ninh Giang Ward respectfully received the grave of martyr Bui Van Sy for burial in his hometown cemetery. The noble sacrifice of the heroes and martyrs has embellished the glorious revolutionary tradition of the Party, so that our country can be independent and free.
The search and return of martyrs' remains to their hometown for burial has profound humanistic significance, demonstrating the deep gratitude of the local Party Committee, Government and People, while helping to ease the pain and loss of martyrs' families, creating favorable conditions for martyrs' worship in families and localities.
Identifying the search and collection of martyrs' remains as a sacred political task, demonstrating the tradition and morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "Repaying gratitude", in recent years, the Department of Home Affairs (formerly the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) has closely coordinated with departments, branches and localities in the province to direct and synchronously and drastically deploy many solutions to improve the effectiveness of the search and collection of martyrs' remains.
Comrade Vu Van The, Head of the Department of Meritorious People, Department of Home Affairs informed: The unit has actively advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue many documents to lead, direct, and effectively and seriously implement the work of searching for and collecting martyrs' remains. At the same time, it has coordinated with agencies and units to implement many projects such as the Project to search for and collect martyrs' remains, the Project to identify martyrs' remains with missing information, the Project on electronic information portal on martyrs, martyrs' graves and martyrs' cemeteries; deploying the collection of DNA samples for relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified in the province...".
From 2019 to present, the Department has coordinated with the Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Association for Supporting Families of Martyrs to provide information for more than 1,000 cases under initial management of martyrs, creating conditions for agencies, units and organizations to complete procedures to identify the remains of martyrs.
From 2024, in coordination with the Provincial Police, DNA samples of relatives of 2,780 martyrs whose remains have not been identified will be collected. In addition, the work of caring for families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services has also been focused on. The province has issued many support policies and mobilized many resources to effectively implement programs such as: Giving away gratitude houses, gratitude savings books; caring for seriously wounded soldiers, caring for lonely, elderly parents of martyrs, and children of martyrs; supporting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, etc.
The whole province supported the construction and repair of nearly 2,100 houses for households with meritorious services who had housing difficulties, and presented millions of gifts during holidays and Tet, thereby gradually improving the material and spiritual life of meritorious services. The movement "All people take care of families of war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution"; the funds "Repaying gratitude", "Comradely affection"... developed and spread widely, receiving support and solidarity from all classes of people with a sense of responsibility and high social awareness.
“The above results not only demonstrate deep gratitude to war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution in the cause of national liberation and protection of the Fatherland, but also the sentiments and responsibilities of all levels, sectors and people in the province in carrying out the work of “Repaying gratitude”, taking care of people with meritorious services to the revolution; promptly encouraging people with meritorious services to continue to make contributions to the cause of construction and socio-economic development in the locality” - Comrade Vu Van The, Head of the Department of People with Meritorious Services, Department of Home Affairs emphasized.
During the historic days of April, the Department of Home Affairs advised the Provincial People's Committee to organize many meaningful activities, such as organizing an incense offering ceremony at the Martyrs' Temple and the Provincial Martyrs' Memorial; organizing the "Returning to the Source" program, activities to learn about relics and red addresses related to the resistance war against the US to save the country on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
