At around 4pm on April 23, heavy rain, strong thunderstorms and hail (about 0.5cm in diameter) occurred in Ba Vi commune (Ba To). The heavy rain and thunderstorms lasted for about 40 minutes, causing serious damage to people's property.
According to initial statistics, the whole commune has over 95 households whose houses have had their roofs blown off or their tiled or corrugated iron roofs damaged. Of these, 15 houses were severely damaged (over 80%); 22 houses were severely damaged (over 50%); and 58 houses were damaged (under 50%). In addition, the commune People's Committee headquarters and the commune Cultural House headquarters had their roofs partially blown off; the cultural houses in the villages had their roofs blown off, damaging the equipment inside.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms also caused a series of trees to fall across National Highway 24 and the main roads between Ba Vi and Ba Xa communes, causing traffic jams for many hours.
Immediately after the storm and heavy rain ended, the People's Committee of Ba Vi commune promptly directed the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the commune to assign forces to inspect and grasp the damage situation in the area under their responsibility. At the same time, concentrate on-site forces to support people to evacuate to a safe place.
