After many days of heavy rain caused by storm No. 6, over 3 hectares of pepper plants of people in Gio An commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province were flooded and damaged. In particular, the continuous appearance of many water veins in pepper gardens has greatly affected the root system of the plants, threatening the area, productivity and quality of this crop in the coming time, making pepper growers extremely worried.

According to Vice Chairman of Gio An Commune People's Committee Le Phuoc Hieu, recent heavy rains have caused many water veins to appear and overflow on the ground, flooding some pepper growing areas in the commune.
Specifically, out of a total of over 80 hectares of pepper plantations in the commune, over 3 hectares were flooded, some pepper gardens had yellow leaves and fallen leaves, causing great economic losses for the people. The last time a water vein appeared in Gio An commune was during the historic flood in 2020, causing nearly 20 hectares of pepper plants to be completely damaged, over 60 hectares were affected and it took a long time to recover.
And now, when the water veins appear in many households' gardens, along with the heavy rains that may continue to occur in the coming days, not only pepper plants but also many areas of flower and industrial crops of the people are at risk of being affected.
Faced with the above situation, Gio An Commune People's Committee is coordinating with Gio Linh District Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Station to guide people on measures to protect pepper plants and some other crops during the rainy and stormy season.
In which, people are instructed to quickly dig drainage ditches around the gardens for gardens that are flooded to drain water quickly; remove water tanks around pepper roots to avoid water stagnation. At the same time, we will continue to propose support for biological products Tricoderma, biological pesticides to prevent diseases for pepper plants in the future.
