Implementing Project 7 under the National Target Program for socio -economic development for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas (Program 1719), focusing on healthcare, nutrition for mothers and children, and increasing life expectancy, the Tan Son District Health Department has recently organized numerous consultation and screening sessions for target groups in disadvantaged communes within the district.

Accordingly, from the beginning of the year until now, Tan Son District Health Center has organized an integrated communication campaign providing health check-up services and screening for some common diseases for nearly 2,400 elderly people. The campaign included health check-ups, screening for common diseases; lifestyle, nutrition, and rest; monitoring, detection, and prevention of common chronic non-communicable diseases among the elderly...
Simultaneously, pre-marital health counseling is provided for teenagers; pregnant women and mothers with young children receive support packages including newborn screening and diagnosis (newborn screening using dried blood samples). These activities are implemented in 8 communes and particularly disadvantaged areas: Kiet Son, Lai Dong, Dong Son, Tan Son, Thu Ngac, Kim Thuong, Xuan Son, Vinh Tien, Tam Thanh, Thu Cuc, Tan Phu, and Thach Kiet.

Along with counseling and screening, the District Health Center also provides training on nutritional care during the first 1,000 days of life for mothers and young children, integrated into prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care, aiming to improve the stature, physical fitness, and lifespan of ethnic minority people. They organized 20 counseling sessions, providing guidance on nutritional practices and demonstrating meal plans for pregnant mothers, mothers with children in their first 1,000 days, and malnourished children under 5 years old.
The project included supplementing equipment for the infant nutrition counseling corner at the health stations in Dong Son, Thu Ngac, and Kim Thuong communes; providing financial support to healthcare workers for home-based postpartum care for mothers and newborns; supplying iron supplements to 100 breastfeeding mothers; and implementing a nutritional care model for the first 1,000 days of life. The total budget for Project 7 was nearly 1.3 billion VND.
