We set foot on that mountain top, hung hammocks to sleep in the cold, and listened to the Co Tu people tell many stories about the sacredness and mystery of that forest and mountain top.
The road to conquering the "eagle"
Mr. Bh'riu Liec - former Secretary of Tay Giang District Party Committee challenged us to climb to the top of K'Lang. "It's very close, only about 4 hours" - Mr. Liec said.
K'Lang is not the name of a Co Tu boy or girl, but means an eagle. Mr. Bh'riu Liec said that in the past, the Co Tu people got lost on the top of the rhododendron.
Seeing that the mountain was too high for humans to reach, and there were shells, the foresters said that only an eagle could spread its wings and fly to the top of the mountain. The name K'Lang came from there, meaning the eagle's high mountain peak and only eagles could reach it.
The road to the rhododendron forest is really a challenge after about 4 hours of trekking through the forest. After the rather peaceful “greeting” from the forest mother, wrist-breaking turns and steep slopes appear more frequently.

At 1:00 p.m., after passing through many slow-motion forests like a magical film, we reached the forest canopy, which was mostly made up of bamboo. Foresters know that places with bamboo are often hot and dry. Bamboo forests growing precariously on the sides of high mountains and deep ravines make hikers exhausted.
Based on the GPS map, it can be seen that the entire route to the top of K'Lang is about 8km long. If you follow the road in A Banh 2 village, the distance will be shortened quite a bit, but this path will make anyone shiver because of a steep mountain range, about 1km long right at the first stretch.
The road to the rhododendron forest was as beautiful as a color film. After about 6 hours of traveling, the group reached a forest where only tree roots emerged from the ground, like the claws of a ferocious beast.
As the group was walking forward, a shower of flowers poured down. Many people, when returning to the foot of the mountain, told each other and regretted not having enough strength to capture the romantic scene in the middle of the forest.
Night in the jungle
We reached the rhododendron peak at 6pm. The sacred forest was dyed purple-red by the late sunlight.

K'Lang Peak is divided into two distinct areas. At the highest peak, you can see foliage on all sides. Rhododendron flowers bloom profusely, with four colors intertwined, looking down from above like a giant brocade. About 15 minutes from the rhododendron peak, following the cliff, you will reach the highest point, which is also the border between Laos and Vietnam.
For a long time, K'Lang peak has been a landmark with beautiful, unique scenery that anyone who loves exploring nature wants to visit once.
The most amazing thing is the strangeness of the plants on the high mountains. At an altitude of 2,050 meters, even though it is mid-summer, it still feels cold. It is hard to believe that on this peak there is an entire forest of rhododendrons.

The rhododendrons here come in four colors, not just white or purple as is common in other national parks. On each rhododendron tree are carpets of moss.
Green moss grows around the tree trunks along with mistletoe and orchids, giving the forest a mysterious look of time. The moss is so thick that just peeling off a piece will reveal a whole sheet. Many people enjoy wearing the moss on their heads like a banana-green hat.
We were walking on layers of leaves and humus. In some places, it felt like every step shook the area as if we were standing in a swamp. Dry trees and leaves had connected to the thick humus layer and nourished the pure, pristine flowers that bloomed brilliantly in places where humans could hardly set foot.
Reaching the top of the rhododendrons at sunset, the group had to quickly find a tree and choose a suitable place to hang their hammocks. On the high mountain, night fell faster. In just a moment, the cold had set in. Each person wrapped their hammocks around the fires that had been lit.
Bags of wine were brought out, each person sharing a sip of white wine to find warmth. A group of young men carrying their luggage accidentally discovered a lake located right on the mountain, there were even small fish. Strange things happened one after another, making the whole group unable to sleep all night, trying to listen and feel everything before returning to the city.
