On the evening of September 15, a group of children in Hamlet Moi, Ward 6 (Gio Linh town, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri) gathered to dance lion dances around the hamlet to raise money to support people in the northern provinces.
Every year, the children in the village go to each family to perform lion dances, the money collected is used to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for the whole village.
But this year is different.
"When the northern provinces suffered heavy damage caused by storms and floods, watching images on the news and through information channels every day, the children understood the losses and pain that the people of the North were suffering.
Responding to the call for the whole country to join hands towards the North, the children proposed to their parents that they want to organize a lion dance on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival and all the money they earn will be used to support the people in the North," said parent Le Thi Khanh Trang.
The "props" are two small lion heads, some pot lids, and a small drum that makes sounds. The performers are non-professional kindergarten and elementary school children, but everyone who watches is interested.
"This idea comes from the children in the neighborhood, with the desire to contribute a small part of their efforts to join hands to share with the northern provinces affected by storms and floods.
In the hamlet, there are 27 households with more than 30 children aged 5-13. The children organized dances for 2 nights, the proceeds were 1 million VND and were sent to the Gio Linh District Fatherland Front Committee," Ms. Trang informed.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Quang Sang (27 years old, residing in Ben Hai village, Trung Son commune, Gio Linh) also established a lion dance team with 15 young men in the village.
"As usual, we want to organize a fun Mid-Autumn Festival for the children in the village. This year, the northern provinces suffered heavy damage due to natural disasters, so the group members proposed to support a lion dance night," said Mr. Sang.
Knowing this idea, everyone in the village warmly welcomed the lion dance team. Some people donated 50,000 VND, some 100,000 VND or more, ending the first night with 2.1 million VND and immediately donated to the North.
Sharing the same idea, 12 young men from Vo Xa village (Trung Son commune) also turned to the North with lion dance activities. The team bought new lion heads, repaired clothes, drums and danced around the village from dusk until the houses closed.
"This is a brotherly sentiment towards the North. We don't have much money so we do a lion dance to raise funds. The villagers are very happy and warmly welcome us. Each family donates a little," said Le Van Tu, a member of the lion dance team.
On the first night, the Vo Xa village lion dance team donated 2.2 million VND. The team will continue to dance on the following nights, and after deducting expenses, if there is any left over, they will continue to donate, said Mr. Tu.
