Avoid selling "beer with peanuts"

During a visit to the base to collect information and propaganda about the education sector, I met a parent whose child was in primary school wondering: The 2025-2026 school year is about to end, but when I flipped through the reference book on developing Math and Vietnamese skills for my child, I saw that it seemed like my child had never studied this book.

Not without surprise, I asked some parents whose children are in primary school and learned that: At the beginning of the school year, the school will give students a registration form with the names of all textbooks, reference books and exercise books for each grade. The form has 2 columns for parents to write "Agree" or "Disagree". Almost all parents check the "Agree" box because many people do not know which books are really necessary and which are not. If they do not register to buy, if the school gives them those books and exercise books, their children will not have books to study. A large number of parents are afraid of teachers and schools if they do not register to buy the full set of books. However, in reality, almost all of the reference books mentioned above are not guided by teachers.

Discussing this story with some primary school teachers, we received the answer: 1 period is 45 minutes, teaching the main curriculum is sometimes not balanced and the lesson plan is "burned", so there is no time to open the books on developing Math and Vietnamese skills to teach. And we are not responsible for teaching those reference books. Those books are only suitable for students with good academic ability to develop their skills, while many students with good and average academic ability who buy books find it very difficult to access them without a teacher's guidance.

In my opinion, the most important task of the school is to teach literacy and people. Therefore, instead of doing the work of the publishing units, the school and teachers only propose to choose textbooks according to the regulations of the textbook set issued by the Ministry of Education and Training , avoiding the situation of "selling beer with peanuts" as mentioned above, causing great waste. State management agencies in this field in each locality also need to closely monitor the sale of textbooks in schools. If any school is found to send registration forms to parents to buy books and notebooks with too many reference books, it needs to be inspected and promptly corrected.
