Faced with unfavorable weather conditions, in recent days, taking advantage of the dry weather, farmers in Ha Tinh have been rushing to the fields to take care of the planted areas and increase new areas.
At the vegetable field in Thuy Hoi village (Thach Hung commune, Ha Tinh city), the production atmosphere is bustling with people working the land, watering, and harvesting fresh green bean sprouts.
Mr. Bui Duc Ha (Thuy Hoi village, Thach Hung commune) covers vegetables with plastic.
Mr. Bui Duc Ha said: "Currently, sprouts cost 25,000 VND/kg, 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg higher than last month. Because of the good price, we harvest early to save land for the next crop, ensuring that there are always vegetables to supply the market. To avoid weather damage to the vegetables, we use plastic to cover them."
Ms. Le Thi Ha (Thuy Hoi village, Thach Hung commune) is busy harvesting to deliver goods to traders.
Not far away, Ms. Le Thi Ha produces 3 sao, all of which are sprouts and curly lettuce. Ms. Ha shared: "Every day I have 20 - 30 kg of vegetables to sell, "pocketing" more than 500,000 VND. This season, I have to work hard, "take the short to support the long", both producing sprouts to create short-term income, and investing in long-term varieties with higher economic value. In the past few days, the land in the fields has been dry, we have just finished sowing green onions and curly lettuce".
The entire Thuy Hoi village currently has about 5 hectares of bean sprouts production. Every day, a large amount of bean sprouts are harvested, mainly consumed in the inner city of Ha Tinh.
In Tuong Son commune (Thach Ha), Mr. Cao Van Hai also took the opportunity to go to the field to take care of his vegetable field after the long rain. He shared: "Before that, my family had planted seeds once but due to the rain, all the seeds were ruined, losing nearly 900,000 VND in seed money. Seeing that the weather was better and green vegetables were expensive, we took the opportunity to prepare the land to grow Chinese cabbage and herbs."
These days, people in the vegetable growing area of Bac Binh village (Tuong Son commune, Thach Ha) are also taking advantage of the weather to plant new short-term vegetable crops.
Since yesterday morning (October 19), vegetable growing areas in Tuong Son commune have been bustling with the atmosphere of people going to the fields to prepare for the winter crop.
Meanwhile, in Tan Lam Huong commune, La Xa village has 2 hectares of vegetables: fish mint, Vietnamese balm, Vietnamese coriander, Vietnamese coriander, basil, cinnamon... Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (La Xa village, Tan Lam Huong commune) said: "At this time, supplies from other provinces are scarce due to heavy rain, many areas in the province have not had time to produce winter vegetables, so the price of green vegetables is quite high. The price of spices ranges from 5,000 VND/bunch, 2 - 2.5 times higher than last month. To take advantage of market demand, in 2 sunny days, we promptly took care of 3 sao of spices, restoring nutrition, so many types of vegetables have begun to be harvested."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan (La Xa village, Tan Lam Huong commune) is harvesting and weeding 3 sao of herbs.
Along with short-term vegetables, at this time, Ha Tinh farmers are also actively visiting the fields, taking care of and monitoring the growth of the main winter crops. Ms. Le Thi Binh (Khang village, Thach Lien commune) said: "This winter crop, my family cultivates 4 sao of land, mainly growing cauliflower, cabbage and some short-term vegetables intercropped. The ground is dry, so I take the opportunity to weed and fertilize the 25-day-old cauliflower and cabbage area. In addition, in the family garden there is 1 sao of Chinese cabbage, each day harvesting nearly 10 bunches, selling for 10,000 VND/bunch".
Ms. Le Thi Binh (Khang village, Thach Lien commune) focuses on the main winter crop and also takes advantage of producing short-term crops to increase income.
For radish growers in Bac Van village, Thach Van commune (Thach Ha), this is the ideal time to speed up the sowing and care of 13.5 hectares of radishes planted in a concentrated manner. Ms. Phan Thi Bay - Director of Hang Bay Vegetable Production Cooperative (Bac Van village, Thach Van) said: “The cooperative produces more than 2.2 hectares of radishes, which has been our main crop for many years. Since the beginning of the season, we have improved the ground, added more soil to raise the field surface, fertilized, and created beds for planting seedlings. If the weather is good, we will finish sowing in a few days.”
Radish growers in Bac Van village, Thach Van commune (Thach Ha) are starting to sow and take care of their crops.
This winter crop, the whole province strives to plant 11,890 hectares of winter crops. Up to this point, the progress of planting winter crops has reached more than 3,883 hectares (over 32.6% of the plan). Currently, the weather has returned to good condition, so farmers in the whole province are focusing on production in the fields. In particular, the favorable market for green vegetables and high prices are the motivation for farmers to actively produce. To take advantage of the season, localities need to soon direct people to focus on "closing" the production area according to the proposed planning framework.
