The circulation of storm No. 3 caused great damage to agricultural production in Tran Yen district with 35 irrigation works severely damaged. Immediately after the disaster, the district directed specialized agencies to coordinate with local authorities to urgently clear the canal system and clean the fields. People also quickly joined in.
In Thanh Thinh commune, production recovery work has been carried out synchronously. The commune government has mobilized people to donate land and contribute labor to repair and upgrade 2.5 km of canals. At the same time, the locality has closely coordinated with specialized units to improve the land and supply seeds according to the structure and crop schedule.
Mr. Dang Van Tan - Secretary of Phu My village Party cell said: "The village has 14.5 hectares of double-crop rice, thanks to support with seeds and investment in nearly 1 km of canals, the people are very excited. The entire rice area of the village is planted according to the crop schedule, currently growing and developing well, the people are determined to take good care of the rice to achieve high efficiency, making up for the previous crop's output lost due to the storm".
By effectively implementing the work of overcoming natural disasters, Thanh Thinh has so far completed the planting of more than 120 hectares of rice with the main varieties being Thien Uu 8, Nhi Uu 830, Nghi Huong 305 and some other pure rice varieties. Currently, the entire rice area is growing and developing well.
Ms. Doan Thu Phuong - Vice Chairman of Thanh Thinh Commune People's Committee said: "The commune focuses on directing organizations to strengthen propaganda work to farmers to focus on taking good care of rice areas; continue to closely coordinate with specialized sectors to guide farmers in monitoring and effectively preventing pests and diseases, striving for spring rice yield of 57 quintals/ha, output of 689 tons".
In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, Tran Yen district has completed planting over 2,098.6 hectares of rice according to the crop schedule. The main varieties include: Thien Uu 8, Nhi Uu 830, Nghi Huong 305 and some other pure rice varieties. Up to now, 100% of the area has ensured irrigation water, the rice is growing well, and is in the final stages of tillering and panicle formation. During this period, the rice enters an important stage to develop a strong root system and reach maximum production capacity.
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Anh Tuyet - Deputy Director of the Center for Agricultural Development Support and Services in Tran Yen district: "The Center has proactively promoted and guided farmers to choose suitable varieties and plant according to the crop schedule. We also regularly visit the fields, promptly detect and prevent pests and diseases, ensuring stable rice growth."
Along with that, the district's agricultural sector will continue to direct agricultural extension teams at the grassroots level to strengthen field inspections, grasp the situation of water sources for rice irrigation; actively and proactively implement measures to care for and effectively prevent rice pests and diseases right from the beginning of the crop. According to the recommendations of the functional sector, farmers need to focus on fertilizing rice during the earing stage, which is considered the last fertilization in the rice growth cycle, directly affecting quality and yield.
At the same time, farmers need to pay attention to some diseases such as stem borers, brown planthoppers, and rice blast disease, especially when high humidity and heavy fog create favorable conditions for pests to thrive.
From the strong direction of the government to the proactiveness and positivity of farmers, this year's winter-spring crop is expected to bring positive results. Tran Yen district strives to achieve the target of spring rice yield of 56.76 quintals/ha, with an estimated output of over 11,900 tons, contributing to the successful implementation of the production plan on all three criteria: area, yield and output. This year's spring crop is not only a "recovery after the storm" crop but also an opportunity to affirm the stability of Tran Yen's agricultural sector in the face of the challenge of extreme weather.
