"Children in the Mist" wins the most important category

On the evening of May 13, the Closing and Award Ceremony of the First Danang Asian Film Festival 2023 (DANAFF I) took place in Danang City.

Director Ha Le Diem of the film "The Children in the Mist" received the award for Best Asian Film.

The documentary "Children of the Mist" (English title: "Children of the Mist") by Vietnamese director Ha Le Diem surpassed 11 other works to be named in the most important category - the Best Asian Film award. She received a prize of 5,000 USD (about 116 million VND).

This is a documentary about the lost childhood of Di - a Mong girl. The film is made in a live documentary style, filmed by the director himself and experiencing life with a Mong family.

Previously, the film was shortlisted for the top 15 Best Documentary of the 2023 Oscars, and participated in more than 100 film festivals around the world, released in theaters in the US, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Singapore.

On stage to receive the award, director Ha Le Diem expressed: "I want to thank Ma Thi Di, my main character, and all my friends in the Mong community. Today, I wore the dress that Di made.

I would like to thank my producers who followed me from 2017 to 2021 to complete the film. Thank you to my friends at TPD Center for Supporting and Developing Cinema Talents for believing in me."

The film "Nha Ba Nu" helped Tran Thanh win the award for Best Director of Vietnamese Film. He beat out artists such as Aaron Toronto ("Dem toi lich roc") and Ngo Thanh Van ("Thanh Soi") to win. Actress Hari Won - Tran Thanh's wife, went on stage to receive the award on her husband's behalf.

On stage receiving the award, Hari Won said that the reason Tran Thanh was absent was because he was filming a TV show.

"My husband said: Husband and wife are one, if I can't go, you go with me to take care of the crew and pay for the crew. My husband works hard on the set, when he comes home he still hands over all the work and doesn't let me sleep. Thanks to lack of sleep, now I receive gifts for my husband, my difficulties are also compensated. Thank you all very much!", Tran Thanh's wife said.

The Closing and Award Ceremony of DANAFF1 witnessed the consecutive victories of the film crew of "Brilliant Dark Night" in 4 categories of Vietnamese films including: Best Screenplay (screenwriters Nha Uyen and Aaron Toronto); Best Actress (Nha Uyen); Best Actor (Huynh Kien An) and the Special Prize of the Vietnamese Film Jury.

On stage, director Aaron Toronto thanked the program's organizers and called his wife's name with an emotional share: "Uyen, I did it!".

The first Danang Asian Film Festival 2023 takes place from May 9-13 in Danang, with the theme "DANAFF - Asian Bridge".

The event aims to honor outstanding cinematographic works, rich in human values, with new discoveries and unique artistic expressions of Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region. The two competition categories are Asian Film and Vietnamese Film.

Within the framework of the event, the Organizing Committee will screen free films for audiences at theaters and outdoor spaces (APEC square).

In addition to awarding prizes, the festival organizes many seminars gathering experts to discuss the impact of cinema.
