Speaking to the press, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan, Chief of Office of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training, said: The Department has learned of the incident that occurred at Hermann Gmeiner High School. According to initial reports, during the morning class, the wooden ceiling of class 11A9 suddenly collapsed, injuring many students.
Currently, the seriously injured students have been taken to Nghe An General Hospital 115 for emergency treatment, while students with minor injuries and injuries are receiving first aid at the school.
Hospital 115 also said that as of 9:00 a.m. on December 21, 10 students had been hospitalized and were receiving first aid and health monitoring by doctors and nurses; one of them was seriously injured, suffering from traumatic brain and spinal injuries, and one had a broken leg. After initial first aid, the case of traumatic brain and spinal injuries was transferred to Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi).
Previously, through images taken directly from the classroom, a large part of the wooden roof collapsed, the classroom was littered with wood and some construction materials.
At Herman Germeiner High School (Vinh City), the scene of the accident is being blocked off by authorities for investigation. Many people, including parents of students, were present at the school to watch the incident. However, no one was allowed to enter, except those authorised by authorities to enter the area where the accident occurred.
Regarding this incident, the Chief of Office of the Nghe An Department of Education and Training also said that the Department has requested the school to urgently provide first aid, ensure the health and reassure the students; at the same time, quickly check and review all facilities.
Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School was built in 1994, with a 1-story roof and wooden ceiling. After decades, the wooden ceiling has deteriorated.
Currently, the authorities are present at Herman Germeiner High School (Vinh City) to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
