Voter turnout - what Trump worries about most

Donald Trump's top advisers, who are "cautiously optimistic" about how the former president will perform on Election Day, believe success or failure in this final hour will largely depend on voter turnout.
According to a senior adviser to the Republican candidate, the race is very tight and voter turnout is what Mr. Trump's team is concerned about right now.
His advisers believe this is the election in which the former President shows his strongest determination.
However, when looking at the data in this election, the team of advisors and people close to Mr. Trump are concerned about the ability of voters to participate in voting.
According to a source close to the Republican candidate, many people kept quiet about their support for him in the previous election and this did not show up in polling data.
Now, Mr. Trump's team is unsure whether this "silence" will happen again in the current election.
Bustling early dawn
It's currently 7 p.m. ET and polls are open in more than 25 states. Here are the states that have just opened:
Alabama, Delaware, Washington, DC, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee
Advice to stay away from conspiracy theories
American voters go to the polls on November 5 to choose the country's next leader.
However, claims of fraud in the 2020 election and repeated accusations from former President Donald Trump mean that every election process will be under close scrutiny, especially in key battleground states.
Election officials across the country, especially in battleground states, have pledged to maintain election integrity and warned voters not to be fooled by conspiracy theories.
“In Georgia, voting is easy but cheating is hard. Our system is incredibly secure,” Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said on November 4.
This year, Republican candidate Donald Trump and some of his allies have accused the election of being “rigged.”
Mr. Trump also repeatedly claimed that the Democratic Party was cheating, and hoped that his supporters would be prepared if he lost.
November 5th is not enough

With a tight race between Mr Trump and Ms Harris, it is unlikely that a winner will be determined by the end of the November 5 voting day.
Furthermore, four battleground states, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, allow absentee voting, so it could take days to complete the voting process.
In the 2020 election, Joe Biden was declared the winner on November 7, four days after the election, when the Democratic candidate passed the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the election after media outlets called Pennsylvania and Nevada for updated data.
As the race for the White House between Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris continues to be tight, some fear a tie and the US Supreme Court could decide the outcome.
Several election-related disputes have reached the country's Supreme Court.
Last week, the Court issued decisions allowing Virginia to remove 1,600 people from the voter rolls, refusing to remove independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from the ballot in two battleground states, and allowing voters in Pennsylvania whose mail-in ballots were deemed invalid to vote in person.
Donald Trump suggests not delaying announcement of election results
According to SCMP , Mr. Trump has called for the announcement of the winner of the White House race on election night, instead of waiting for the counting of mail-in ballots and other processes.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on November 3, Mr. Trump affirmed that announcing the results overnight would help avoid accusations of fraud or disagreement about the results.
The former US President said that the extension of the vote counting time raised doubts about the transparency of the election.
In previous elections, especially 2020, many mail-in and early ballots were not counted immediately, which delayed the final results in some battleground states and caused controversy. Mr. Trump has also alleged voter fraud, without providing any specific evidence.
The idea of announcing results on election night is facing mixed reactions, as it could ignore votes that have not been counted in time, especially mail-in ballots.
Experts say the current process helps ensure accuracy and fairness in elections, even if it takes more time.
Hindus in South India pray for Harris' victory

The eyes of the world are on the 2024 US presidential election, including Hindus in southern India. They have been praying for Kamala Harris' victory.
Harris’s parents were immigrants from India and Jamaica. Her mother was born in Tamil Nadu, India, before moving to the United States to pursue her doctorate. Harris has spoken of her childhood memories of visiting her grandfather in Chennai, and how her Indian heritage has influenced her life and career.
“Kamala Harris, will contest the US presidential election. She will definitely win,” Ballu, founder of the Hindu Anukragni Foundation of Anushanath, in Madurai city in Tamil Nadu, said in videos carried by Reuters and ANI News.
In the videos, the banner shows Ms Harris displayed next to Hindu statues, with priests praying and offering flower petals to the statues.
Many Indian Americans have been buoyed by Harris’s emergence as the Democratic nominee, with the community showing strong support for her campaign in the weeks since the vice president announced her candidacy.

6:30 a.m.: Ohio, North Carolina, West Virginia and Vermont.
7:30 a.m.: Alabama, Delaware, Washington DC., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Tennessee.
8am: Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin
Severe weather affects voter turnout.
Severe weather is affecting voter turnout in battleground states on Election Day. Many states are bracing for a cold front and storms on Election Day.
Heavy rain is falling from east Texas to the Missouri-Illinois border, including St. Louis. These areas are also experiencing storms, threatening flash floods and flooding. Rainfall totals of 3-8 inches (76-203mm) were reported overnight.
Although the rain will continue to move east, this weather could impact early morning voter turnout.
The cold front moved east, bringing rain to Minnesota and battleground states like Wisconsin and Michigan, and south to Louisiana. In previous elections, heavy rain has also reduced voter turnout.
Wisconsin is expected to have the worst weather of the seven battleground states. The US National Hurricane Center also warned of Category 1 to 5 storms in the state. In addition, widespread showers and even thunderstorms with winds exceeding 60 mph (97 km/h) and tornadoes are possible.
The heaviest rainfall associated with the November 5 cold front will occur from east Texas to southern Indiana.
Tensions in the race for control of the House of Representatives
This year's race for control of the US House of Representatives is considered one of the fiercest 'battles' in history. (Source: News Nation Now) |
On November 5, in addition to voting for the president, American voters also voted to re-elect all 435 seats in the House of Representatives representing 435 constituencies in 50 states of the country.
In the current 118th House of Representatives, the Republican Party holds a slim majority of 220 seats, the Democratic Party holds 212 seats and there are 3 vacant seats.
With Rep. Hakeem Jeffries elected as House minority leader, this will be the first House election since 2002 that Democrats are not led by veteran politician Nancy Pelosi.
Analysis from political monitoring sites and organizations shows that this year's race for control of the House of Representatives will focus mainly on the states of Maine, Washington, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin and will be one of the most fierce House races in history.
Sabato's Crystal Ball editor-in-chief Larry Sabato believes that Democrats could regain control of the House with a minimum majority of 218 seats while Republicans would have 217 seats.
Meanwhile, the joint forecast from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ shows that Republicans have a 52% chance of retaining their majority in the legislature for another term.
Also according to the poll results of Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ), the Republican Party has a 70% chance of regaining control of the 119th US Senate from January 2025 with 52 seats compared to 48 seats for the Democratic Party.
Why are Pennsylvania and Michigan important in this election?

Pennsylvania and Michigan are two important battleground states that are expected to play a pivotal role in this year's election. A swing state is a group of states where the election results are very close and can change between presidential elections.
Each US state has a certain number of electoral votes, corresponding to the size of that state's population. To win the election, a presidential candidate must win at least 270 electoral votes.
This year, closely watched states include Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Nevada and North Carolina.
Pennsylvania has 19 electoral votes. Donald Trump's victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election was the first time a Republican candidate had won Pennsylvania since 1988.
Michigan has 15 electoral votes. Mr Trump also won the state against Mrs Clinton in 2016, marking the first time a Republican candidate won there since 1992.
Opening election day, Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump "divided" in the midnight vote

At exactly 0:00 on November 5 (local time), the town of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire opened its polling stations in the dramatic general election.
With polling stations opening at midnight, voters in Dixville Notch were among the first to cast their ballots on Election Day. This year, Dixville Notch only had six registered voters, so the process took less than a minute.
As a result, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump tied with three votes each in the New Hampshire town of Dixville Notch.
The tradition of midnight voting began in Dixville Notch in 1960 after town officials lobbied the New Hampshire legislature to recognize the town as an independent voting district.
Vice President Harris: "This Could Be One of the Closest Races in History"
During her final campaign stop on November 4 in Philadelphia before Election Day, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris said her team was "optimistic and excited," saying Pennsylvania could "decide the outcome" of the election.
"The race is not over and we have to finish it strong. This could be one of the closest races in history. Every vote matters," Harris said.

Throughout the rally, the crowd erupted in chants of “We will win” and “We will not be left behind.”
In addition, during her campaign, Ms. Harris emphasized her commitment to reducing the cost of living, housing, child care, elder care and taxes for workers as well as small businesses.
The Vice President also promised to pass a bill to restore reproductive autonomy to women.
Ms Harris has sought to contrast with Mr Donald Trump by promising to give dissenters a place in government, while the former president has often spoken harshly of his political opponents.
“We began this campaign 107 days ago. From the beginning, our campaign has been a fight for a future of freedom, opportunity, and dignity for all Americans,” Ms. Harris affirmed.
Harris's vice president mobilizes the power of female voters
Speaking at a rally in Detroit, Michigan on the evening of November 4, Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, called for support from female voters in Michigan, a weakness for his opponent Donald Trump, who is facing a growing gender gap in his support.

"Tomorrow, women across America, of all ages, of both parties, are going to send a big message to Donald Trump, whether he likes it or not," Walz said, echoing Trump's recent remarks that he wanted to protect women "whether women like it or not."
The Democratic vice president added: "This is our moment, the election is on. The momentum is on our side. With one or two votes in every precinct in the state of Michigan, we can win outright."
It's the latest battleground state stop for the Minnesota governor, who has been traveling the country to promote Ms Harris' vision for America.
Michigan is one of the key "blue wall" states that Democrats hope to capture to win the presidential race.
Nearly 3.2 million people voted in the state, representing about 44% of registered voters.
Arab voters suddenly "turn" to Trump's side
The campaign for Republican candidate Donald Trump in Michigan featured two mayors from cities in the Detroit suburbs – an area with a large Arab-American community.

Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib and Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi are both Democrats who have “turned the table” to support former President Trump, as well as calling on Arab Americans to support him.
“I would like to send a message to Arab and Muslim Americans, your vote in this battleground state will change the face of America, as well as decide the future of the country,” Mayor Ghalib declared.
Donald Trump is exploiting unrest in suburban Detroit, home to the nation’s largest Arab-American community, which is unhappy with the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict.
Additionally, Mayor Bazzi, who has faced opposition from some in his community, asserted that he would “rather lose his job than let a group of warmongers win the election.”
Trump raises concerns about fraud just before G-hour
Republican candidate Donald Trump continued his accusations of fraud on the eve of the election, calling Democrats a “brutal machine” and suggesting that states are “extensions of the federal government.”
At a rally in Pittsburgh, former US President Donald Trump asserted that Democrats can use bad ideas to win elections.
“We have to win the old-fashioned way and fix the system,” Mr. Trump stressed.

According to Mr. Trump, the states are “extensions of the federal government” to collect information and receive orders from the government.
Mr. Trump also said the results of the 2020 election were “the worst thing that’s ever happened to this country,” and declared the race with Vice President Kamala Harris “not really close” despite polls showing the two candidates in a tight race nationwide.
Previously, at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on November 3, the former US President affirmed that there were "a lot of dishonest people trying to steal the election results" and alluded to the Democrats.
Mr. Trump also questioned the reliability of voting machines, citing information from billionaire Elon Musk, a supporter of the former President and owner of social network X, but did not provide any specific evidence.
Hot "two-horse" race in Pittsburgh
Before supporters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump promised to amend President Joe Biden's policies at the southern border and control the flow of immigrants at ports of entry.
He also affirmed that he would end economic inflation and invest heavily in national defense and the military.
Affirming that he “can solve every problem facing the country and take America and the world to new heights of glory,” he boldly declared to voters: “A golden age of America is coming.”
Although it was not his last rally on the eve of the election, former President Donald Trump's aides described his speech in Pittsburgh as a "final message" to the American people.
After Pennsylvania, Mr. Trump will end his campaign in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In the penultimate event before “G,” Ms. Harris showed confidence when speaking to supporters in Pittsburgh: “We have to finish strong… We will win.”
Calling on her supporters to actively vote, she stressed: “I am asking for your vote. It is your voice and your voice is your power.”
Ms. Harris is now traveling to Philadelphia for the final rally of her campaign.

The two candidates' deputies are in the fray.
Republican Senator JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, has campaigned at three locations in Georgia, including a stop in the city of Altanta.
There, he called on voters to bring their friends and family to the polls, and delivered a poignant speech about the “great unity” of the Republican Party in this city.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tim Walz, the Democratic Party's vice presidential candidate, gave a speech to Wisconsin voters, calling on the people of this country to "let Ms. Harris lead", emphasizing that American voters hold the opportunity to "shape the future for the next generations".
Mr Walz praised Ms Harris’s 107-day campaign as “an incredible journey” and credited her with bringing “the fun back to politics”.
Tense situation at Georgia election office
CNN quoted a nonpartisan observer as saying that Republican observers were "confrontational" with election workers at the election office in Cobb County, Georgia.
According to county Communications Director Ross Cavitt, election observers refused to leave the designated voter seats, forcing election officials to seek police assistance. However, the situation was resolved when police officers arrived.
Cobb County Republican Party Chairwoman Salleigh Grubbs blamed local officials, saying the tense situation was “caused by certain individuals within the election board preventing observers from monitoring as required.”
She also said the incident occurred when an observer was trying to take a photo of a ballot that they considered “irregular.”
Ms. Harris “goes to every alley, knocks on every door”
According to CNN , on the evening of November 4 (local time), Vice President Kamala Harris directly knocked on doors in Reading, Pennsylvania, to call for support. Her campaign team has directed staff to focus on campaigning for voters. According to experts, the race in Pennsylvania could be long with a close result before Friday.
Pennsylvania is the most important battleground state in the 2024 election. Both Harris and Trump are betting on the state’s 20 electoral votes. According to statistics from the company AdImpact, the two candidates’ campaigns have poured nearly $300 million into advertising in Pennsylvania alone – the most of any state in the country. |
Elon Musk wins sweepstakes lawsuit
CNN reported that Philadelphia District Judge Angelo Foglietta ruled that the $1 million-a-day sweepstakes organized by billionaire Elon Musk's political action committee, a supporter of Republican candidate Donald Trump, in swing states can continue until the end of the presidential election.
Mr. Musk's awards program was sued by a Democrat who said the awards violated state election law.
Trump campaigned in Pennsylvania
AP reported that in Reading, Pennsylvania , Mr. Trump told his supporters that he had been waiting for the election for 4 years and called it "the most important political event in the history of the country."
Urging his supporters to vote, Mr. Trump asserted that if he won in Pennsylvania, “we will win the whole thing.”
At the event, the Republican candidate brought some of his children on stage and said: "This is our last time, forever."
Harris campaigns in Pennsylvania
Speaking in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where many Puerto Ricans live, US Vice President Kamala Harris declared: " I stand here proud of my long-standing commitment to Puerto Rico and its people that I will be a president for all Americans."
Stressing that the country and the American people are facing an opportunity "to turn the page on a decade of politics driven by fear and division," the Democratic presidential candidate affirmed: "America is ready for a new beginning."
Highest security alert in history
Ahead of the election, states across the country have deployed unprecedented security measures to counter the threat of civil unrest, election interference and violence against election workers.
The states of Oregon, Washington and Nevada have mobilized the National Guard, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has set up a threat monitoring command center and security has been enhanced at nearly 100,000 polling places nationwide.
Runbeck Election Services, a company that provides election security technology, confirmed it has ordered about 1,000 panic buttons for election workers and facilities. The devices are neckbands or pocket-sized devices that connect to a cell phone to contact law enforcement in the event of an emergency.
In Arizona, where unrest and conspiracy theories about the 2020 election have taken place, the main ballot counting facility in Maricopa County has become a fortress with iron fences, barbed wire, armed guards and a SWAT team on the roof.
US officials also warn of threats from cyberspace and hackers, especially from abroad.
In Washington, DC, officials have warned of a “volatile, unpredictable security environment” in the days and possibly weeks after polls close. Many stores have begun to reinforce their storefronts in anticipation of possible unrest.
About 77 million voters have cast their ballots early.
Statistics show that in the 2024 US presidential election, about 77 million voters have voted early in most states since late September. Of which, North Carolina has more than 4.2 million voters voting early, marking a new record and surpassing the number recorded in 2020.
This year’s high early turnout also reflects a push by Republicans in the state and across the country to encourage early voting, a stark contrast to the 2020 election, when former President Donald Trump claimed, without evidence, that mail-in voting was rife with fraud.
The latest New York Times/Siena poll focuses on seven key states, dubbed “battleground states,” showing that candidate Kamala Harris is ahead in three states, including Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia, and Wisconsin, tied with Republican rival Donald Trump in Pennsylvania and Michigan, but Trump is ahead of Harris in Arizona.
The poll also showed that Ms. Harris has lost ground in a state that will determine the final outcome of this year's presidential election: Pennsylvania, a vast territory in the northeast of the United States, which has 19 electors out of the minimum 270 that either candidate must win to become the winner of the race to the White House. The results of the election poll in Pennsylvania on November 4 showed that Mr. Trump temporarily took a slim lead with a gap of 48.3% compared to 48% for Ms. Harris.
