Trailer of the movie "A Thousand Flavors of Humanity" by Tran Anh Hung
On March 7, the movie Muon vi nhan gian (original name: The Pot-au-Feu ) by director Tran Anh Hung released its official trailer.
The Taste of the World revolves around the kitchen filled with love and gourmet dishes of culinary expert Dodin (Benoît Magimel) and female chef Eugénie (Juliette Binoche).
Tran Anh Hung brings French beauty to Vietnam
For more than 20 years working together, cooking together every day, Dodin reading the recipes and Eugénie transforming them over the fire, they spent more time together than many couples.
But when Dodin proposed marriage, Eugénie could not accept and expressed her concerns through the performance of star Juliette Binoche:
"How many more times are you going to ask me to marry you? You said we were in the fall. That's you. I feel like we're in the middle of summer" or "Can I ask you a question? Am I your chef or your wife?"

The dishes in the film were made by director Tran Anh Hung and culinary consultant Pierre Gagnaire to be as similar as possible to the 19th century, requiring a large number of complex ingredients.
Before filming, chef Pierre Gagnaire personally cooked each dish in the script for director Tran Anh Hung to see and visualize how it would be filmed.
"Pierre Gagnaire and I first met in his kitchen, where I was invited to enjoy a wonderful pot-au-feu.
We worked together from the pre-production stage of the film. He selected each dish from the menu that I included in the script.
I was so moved to see him work so hard in the kitchen, trying things out, making mistakes, and then starting over again until he found exactly what he wanted.
Pierre is a passionate, sincere and kind person" - director Tran Anh Hung said about culinary consultant Pierre Gagnaire.

Director Tran Anh Hung said all the dishes and culinary scenes in the movie Muon Vi Nhan Gian are real:
"Even the film's technical and production crew were surprised, because in the past, in other films, they often used processed foods or fake foods that could be easily rearranged when necessary.
But in my films, everything is real. On set, when I called "cut" during a dining scene, the actors continued to... eat. The props team even had to ask the actors to stop eating so they could rearrange the table."

The Pot-au-Feu is a stew made with beef, veal, pigeon, rabbit and many vegetables, and is very elaborate to prepare. The cooking scene alone used a total of 40kg of meat.
Director Tran Anh Hung won the Best Director award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for this film. Previously, he made his mark in cinema with The Scent of Green Papaya, Vertical Summer, Norwegian Wood, And He Came in the Rain...
The movie "A Thousand Flavors of Humanity" will be released in theaters in Vietnam from March 22.
