(Dan Tri) - Luu An Ton (born in 1990) was the valedictorian of Nguyen Trai University (Hanoi) when he turned 35. He had a special experience celebrating Tet in both the North and the South.
After graduating from high school, Luu An Ton (Hanoi) decided to go to Ho Chi Minh City to study pilot training. From 2008 to 2014, he was a pilot for Vietnam Airlines.
This made An Ton's Tet more special as he had the opportunity to experience traditional Tet in both the South and the North.
"There were years when, due to the nature of my work, I could not return to the North to celebrate Tet. However, that did not make me feel disappointed, because I had the opportunity to experience the traditional Tet atmosphere in the South," he shared.
After a while, Luu An Ton decided to quit his job to pursue his studies. At the age of 30, he became a student majoring in business administration at Nguyen Trai University (Hanoi).
An Ton shared: "For me, this was not an easy decision. Starting to study at an age when many people have already settled down in their careers is a big challenge, especially when I study with generations more than 10 years older than me."
However, for him, this is not an obstacle but an opportunity to assert himself. An Ton shared that, at first, he felt a bit lost, but after only 2-3 weeks, he realized that this was not too big of a challenge.
"I always believe that it is never too late to learn. At any age, the spirit of eagerness to learn is always a valuable virtue. Therefore, I consider it a motivation to strive and strive in a learning environment with students younger than me.
I actively participated in many activities, such as taking on the role of Student Union President, joining the English club... Being open and not shy about myself helped me integrate better with my fellow students," An Ton shared.
Thanks to his efforts and perseverance, he excelled and became the valedictorian of Business Administration with a score of 3.80/4.0 at the age of 35. For him, this is the most meaningful gift in 2024.
After completing his studies, An Ton returned to Ho Chi Minh City to work. In the days leading up to Tet, he could clearly feel the bustling atmosphere here. He shared: "The excitement and hustle and bustle of preparing for Tet reminded me of the days when I prepared the food and cleaned the house with my family.
This year, due to the nature of my work, I was only able to return home to celebrate Tet with my mother close to Tet. The distance makes every moment of reunion more precious than ever."
When sharing his feelings about Tet in the two regions, Mr. Ton commented that each place has its own unique "style" of celebrating Tet.
The South stands out with its bright yellow chrysanthemums and blooming apricot blossoms, creating a joyful, bustling, and eager atmosphere. Meanwhile, the North is associated with the gentle pink color of peach blossoms, giving him a nostalgic, warm, and familiar feeling.
He added: "Tet in the South is often associated with a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere, suitable for outdoor activities and gatherings with friends. Tet in the North, in addition to the typical cold, also brings traditional values, such as the feeling of gathering around the family table, watching peach blossoms in the house. Each region leaves in me beautiful memories that for me are irreplaceable."
Recalling Tet 2024, Mr. Ton said that he unfortunately fell just two days before returning to Hanoi: "I felt very sad because it was close to Tet but I had an unfortunate incident. But I still tried to stay optimistic, thinking that I would soon be able to return home to reunite with my mother after a year apart. Isn't that still a better thing?
Thinking of my mother and child waiting for me to return, I was determined to return to Hanoi by all means. Thanks to the help of my relatives, I was helped to the airport. There, I received support with a stroller and was given priority to board the plane first."
When he met and was comforted by his mother, Mr. Ton truly felt the meaning of Tet, that returning home is always the best thing. He shared: "After many years of struggling, being busy with work and missing many Tet holidays with my family, I just realized that, no matter where I go or what I do, I must definitely return home for Tet, because home is always a warm place for us to return to."
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, Mr. Ton tried to arrange his work to return home with his family to prepare for traditional Tet activities. He said he would clean the house with his mother and prepare everything carefully to welcome the New Year.
