New direction in community tourism
Sa Huynh is a famous place in Duc Pho Town (Quang Ngai), about 60 km south of Quang Ngai City center. This is the first place where ancient culture was discovered in 1909. Sa Huynh culture is one of the three major cultures of Vietnam , including: Sa Huynh, Dong Son, Oc Eo.
The Sa Huynh archaeological and historical relic complex associated with An Khe freshwater lagoon (Duc Pho town) has been recognized as a special national relic and is oriented by Quang Ngai province to become a world cultural heritage.

Here, salt making, pottery making, seafaring, and farming are the survival characteristics of the prehistoric Sa Huynh people, and are also the livelihood of the current local people. Experiencing all the activities associated with nature and indigenous people, visitors will be immersed in the prehistoric space, feeling the knowledge of the ancient Sa Huynh people.
Trung Son and Vinh An pottery villages (Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town) were formed more than 300 years ago, located next to An Khe freshwater lagoon in the core area of Sa Huynh cultural heritage. Vinh An pottery households still preserve the traditional pottery making techniques of Sa Huynh culture in the stages of preparing soil, creating shapes with hand-molding techniques combined with slow turntables, and pottery products are fired in manual kilns using herbs as raw materials.
Ms. Dang Thi My (in Vinh An village, Pho Khanh commune) said that she has been involved in the craft of handmade pottery for more than 40 years. Each type of product has different levels of difficulty, ease and molding methods. To have a product that is both smooth and evenly cooked, both beautiful and durable, the craftsman must be careful in every step. Pho Khanh pottery is completely natural pottery, without using any type of glaze.

The Sa Huynh culture exists vividly around the "heart" of An Khe freshwater lagoon. Sa Huynh people today still make handmade pottery, grow rice along An Khe lagoon, fish with small, primitive boats, make sea salt, and practice agriculture on stone terraces... Therefore, visiting this land will help visitors return to prehistoric times through interactions with nature.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Kieu, Director of Sa Huynh Prehistoric Pottery Cooperative, when coming to Sa Huynh, tourists will visit the traditional pottery village in Vinh An village and experience the ancient and modern pottery making stages, touching the soul of prehistoric culture. Making pottery will give tourists many emotions about the picture of material and spiritual life of the ancient Sa Huynh people.
The people living in the heritage area are mostly farmers, fishermen, salt workers, etc. Therefore, community tourism to experience Sa Huynh cultural space will be identified by a network of tourist attractions such as: salt village, pottery village, Go Co village (Pho Thanh Ward) and many other villages.
