(HBĐT) - Bay Mau Coconut Forest, Cam Thanh Commune, Hoi An City (Quang Nam) is considered as "the West in the heart of Hoi An". With a peaceful river scene interspersed with immense green coconut forests, this place is increasingly attracting many tourists when coming to Hoi An.

Tourists experience a basket boat ride to explore the "coconut land of Hoi An".

Bay Mau Coconut Forest is about 3 km from Hoi An center. It is called Bay Mau because in the past, this coconut forest only had 7 acres, until now the forest area is more than 200 acres but the local people are familiar with this affectionate name. The coconut forest is located next to 3 famous rivers in Hoi An: Hoai River, Thu Bon River and De Vong River flowing into the sea. Therefore, this place has brackish water which is very suitable for the development of water coconut, so the coconut forest is getting bigger and greener.

To fully explore the beauty of the forest, we chose to experience a basket boat ride on the river. After moving to the boat dock on Bach Dang Street near Hoi An Market, we took a boat along the Hoai River towards Cua Dai. The moment we set foot on the boat, the lingering heat from the city disappeared into the fresh air with rows of green coconut trees, swaying leaves and the cool sea breeze.

Visiting the coconut forest by a basket boat floating on the river, feels like coming to a province in the West. Surely visitors do not want to miss a single moment to fully enjoy the values that nature brings. Because when coming here, human senses will be awakened. Eyes to see the peaceful and beautiful river and trees. Ears to listen to the sound of fish swimming, the sound of frogs croaking. Nose to smell the aroma of the fields. Unlike in the West, where the main means of transportation is a boat or a boat weaving through the mangrove forests, in the Bay Mau coconut forest, round basket boats stand out. This is what makes it interesting and attractive to visitors.

The most special thing when visiting Bay Mau coconut forest is experiencing the extremely skillful boat-shaking performance of local rowers. Mr. Pham Ly, a famous rower in Cam Thanh commune (Hoi An city) said: In recent years, rowing a basket boat has not only brought tourists the feeling of floating under the cool coconut trees, enjoying the rustic pleasures, but has also been performed by fishermen here as an art. For him, who has been sitting on a basket boat since he knew how to eat, turning the boat and riding the water is as easy as turning your hand. Just a few kicking and jumping movements can bring the feeling of "flying and shaking" to the people on the boat.

Ms. Le Hue Van, a tourist from Hoa Binh, said: As a person who loves thrilling games, when I came to the coconut forest, I was extremely excited to experience the feeling of sitting on a boat with fishermen shaking the basket boat. In just a small boat, fishermen can use their hands to row the boat, making it sway and spin continuously without feeling dizzy at all. It takes a very experienced person to do that. Therefore, you must be sure that your health is very good before trying it and remember to hold on to the side of the boat tightly if you don't want to fall into the water.

Arriving at Bay Mau coconut forest, fishermen will row boats to take visitors through the canals, with green coconut forests on both sides for about an hour. In addition to experiencing the thrill of the basket boat swing, visitors can sit on a boat to sightsee and learn about the daily life of the Hoi An people. Or directly experience throwing nets to catch shrimp and fish with the locals or sit on a basket boat to relax and fish...

Bay Mau Coconut Forest in Hoi An offers visitors a peaceful space of a rustic countryside, coconut trees surrounding gentle, honest people. A tourist destination with simple, pure things will be a medicine to help visitors dispel fatigue, anxiety, enjoy the fresh air, and help themselves "heal" effectively.
