
Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Most Venerable Thich Thien Tam, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Sangha; representatives of the Consulates General of Cambodia, Laos and Thailand; and representatives of HUFO member associations.
Speaking at the festival, Mr. Ho Xuan Lam, Vice President of HUFO affirmed that the Traditional New Year Festival of the people of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand is one of many annual activities of HUFO, aiming to further promote mutual understanding between Vietnam and neighboring countries, enhance cultural exchange and multi-faceted cooperation between the Vietnamese people in general and the people of Ho Chi Minh City in particular with friendly countries.
According to Mr. Ho Xuan Lam, Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos - Myanmar - Thailand are close brotherly countries, living together in the ASEAN community, have had a lot of cooperation and mutual assistance over the years; always sharing the joys and sorrows in the cause of building and developing the country, striving together towards a peaceful , stable, cooperative and prosperous ASEAN community.
On the occasion of the new year Chol-chnam-thmay of the Cambodian people, Bun-pi-may of the Lao people, Thing Yang of the Myanmar people and Trut-Songkran of the Thai people, Mr. Ho Xuan Lam, on behalf of the people of Ho Chi Minh City, the Executive Board of HUFO and member associations, wishes the best wishes to the Cambodian, Lao, Myanmar and Thai friends, wishing the country and people of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand to always develop and prosper.
The festival took place in a joyful atmosphere, warm with solidarity and traditional rituals of countries celebrating Tet, such as burning incense, praying for peace, bathing Buddha, wishing blessings and receiving fortune on the occasion of the New Year.
