The tunnel branch with the direction from District 7 to Binh Chanh District has a closed tunnel section of 98m long, and an open tunnel section of 180m on each side. The construction unit has built a pumping station and drainage system for the tunnel, lighting system, traffic organization and some other technical infrastructure works.

When put into operation, the HC2 tunnel branch will only allow cars to pass through, motorbikes and pedestrians are prohibited. Vehicles on Nguyen Huu Tho Street will not be allowed to cross the intersection. Authorities will also adjust some U-turn locations to ensure safety and avoid congestion.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan - Head of Road 4 Management Board under the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) - said that this project started in 2020 but encountered many difficulties such as the Covid-19 pandemic. This is also an area with a very high traffic density, so we have to work and organize traffic at the same time.

At the same time, the construction process was disrupted by the relocation of large-scale technical infrastructure such as high-voltage power systems and water supply systems.

However, this project always receives attention from departments, branches, localities and related units to remove difficulties.

"Up to now, the first tunnel branch of the project has been officially completed and put into operation. After the tunnel is opened, heavy trucks can enter the tunnel with 3 lanes. However, the area has a high traffic density, the intersection has not been completely completed, so there is still congestion, people have to go around" - Mr. Tuan said and hoped that people would sympathize with the impact and inconvenience.

The investor representative said that the HC1 tunnel branch from Binh Chanh district to District 7 has completed 70% of the work and will be completed by the end of this year, helping to complete the focal intersection in phase 1. Next, the city will implement phase 2 at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection to form a multi-level intersection. At that time, the traffic situation through the area will be more stable.

According to the plan, phase 2 of the project will build 2 more overpasses across this intersection with an estimated cost of about 1,780 billion VND (including construction and site clearance costs); invest in the remaining items combined with expanding Nguyen Huu Tho Street according to the plan.
